@meredithNYC: my LO has refused to sit in a stroller for a long time now. so sadly, we have to put up with all the walking antics! i am so jealous when i see older kids sitting nicely in strollers. *sigh*

This is my fear! Slow walking for a New Yorker is just unnatural and I don't know how I'm going to deal (esp. when I throw my slow-moving bulldog into the mix). Now I understand why I see older kids in strollers so often. I used to be like, WTH? But yeah... I get it.

I'm so curious to hear from other HB mommas on this because my LO does the same thing. It takes FOREVER to go anywhere. If there's a pothole on the floor, he was to stomp on it. Stairs?Must climb! Leaves? Must kick! Goes on forever! Usually my husband picks him up and carries him quickly wherever we need to go but his arms get so tired.

The only thing that works for us (other than picking him up) is grabbing his hand and saying "Let's run! Yay! Let's run together!". and then we'll start jogging towards wherever we need to go. He thinks that's fun and starts running too.

Lo doesn't walk so we don't have that problem yet. But all my mommy friends with 2 year olds do.

When I was 2 I insisted on walking the turkey trot, I wouldn't go in the stroller or let my mom hold me. So we walked... and we were the last to finish the race. We had the police cars following us the whole time :)

DH normally does daycare drop off and doesn't let LO walk into the building because he says she takes way too long and he is in a rush to get to work. The other morning I had to take her and I didn't know this rule that he had so I let her walk. She went up super quick so I didn't think anything of it but apparently I ruined things for him the next morning because she wanted to walk because I had just let her do it. Ooops! Sorry, DH!

Charlie likes to take his time when he walks. Every brownstone we pass is an opportunity to either sit down, or to climb up on the steps so he can jump down them one at a time. Every tree we pass is an opportunity to look for acorns that he can stick in his pocket.

Basically, this kid loves to take his time! The only time he walks quickly is when he is pushing his toy stroller... then we can make great time. Honestly, it's really exhausting and results in me carrying him in my arms whenever we need to get somewhere in a hurry! Or of course, we just strap him into a stroller.

I'm wondering if this is common and if so, how long this phase lasts. Any experienced moms/dads out there that can shed some light?

Thanks!
