@SeptMomma12: I keep telling myself this is all a crapshoot. But, I gave her the first dose of Zantac, and she nursed without screaming and spitting up. I hope they get you some meds ASAP. Hang in there momma.

Neither my doctor nor my midwives were worried about green poops unless there was blood or obvious discomfort.

@dc yoga bee: Weird. I just talked to the doctor and she said she doesn't worry about green poop as long as there's no blood. Ugh, this is all so confusing!

@SeptMomma12: I just left the doctor, and she asked me twice if lo was having green poops, because then it would mean something in my diet is upsetting her tummy.

@SeptMomma12: normally you do one breast only for 3-4 hours and then switch, It's caused by an oversupply issue I believe.

@catlady: Thanks! I'm waiting for a call back from the pediatrician. I'm thinking we will probably try reflux meds first, but I'm going to try to take it easy on the obvious dairy too.

@SeptMomma12: No worries. It was confirmed because I (stupidly) decided to test it out myself so I went off dairy for several weeks and then second guessed it and re-introduced it by eating a ton all in one day...and then my baby had terrible bloody poops for several days in a row. :( In our case, she had more than just MSPI (I had to eliminate alot and she still always had at least microscopic blood in her stool) so I think that's why removing just dairy didn't seem to have done much (but eating a ton at once made her worse). My LO didn't sleep well at all and was near colicky at that point though. You could definitely tell something was bothering her.

Edited to add: Of course, we also had our pediatrician confirm MSPI too. But by then we pretty much knew.

@catlady: And it was confirmed because it all went away when you went dairy-free? Sorry for all the questions...just not sure what to do at this point. She's a very content baby - sleeps through the night already - but the green poop, reflux and now congestion make me concerned.

@SeptMomma12: I want to say around 8 weeks or so. At that point, I was in the same boat as you and wasn't sure what the issue was. It took another month or so to confirm MSPI.

Thanks all. I'm waiting for the doctor to call back because I think we need to try some meds for this reflux. I can't stand to watch her coughing and gagging all the time :crying:

@jetsa: She only feeds on one breast per feeding already. Is that what you mean?

@catlady: What age did the MSPI poops begin?

we had green poop, but I have major oversupply and forceful letdown, so I suspect that contributed. The green would come and go, but the biggest, most consistent sign of intolerance for us is mucus -- it looks like his diaper is full of boogers. We also tested positive for microscopic blood, but never saw any.

My LO had green before they turned brown/black/bloody due to MSPI. However, she was definitely not a "content" baby. I'd say wait it out a few days if your baby seems to be doing ok. My pediatrician said that green poops alone weren't really a sign of anything.

We had green poops occasionally and I would worry about it because I read here that it can be a sign of MSPI. But sometimes green poop is just green poop. DS also had no other symptoms, so I didn't ask the ped about it. At 19m he has no known allergies to anything.

For us, it did. It was one symptom among several, though. We never got to visible blood in her poop, but there were microscopic particles there. If you are concerned, could you ask your ped to check? That confirmed our suspicions.

T had a lot more green poo up until 3 months. Never for longer than a day or two. Now it's rare especially since she's down to pooping once a day or two. I do have an egg allergy my ND thought was causing a bad diaper rash.

My LO has had plenty of random green poops, always due to foremilk imbalance. Not anything to worry about. Forceful letdown can definitely contribute to it.

Mine went through phases of green poops. There are a number of reasons I was give. (Fore milk/hind milk imbalance, introduced new food she hadn't had before via breast milk, sensitivity to completely normal). I found it went away after a few days, would sometimes come back when I had a new food or tofu specifically. Was definitely happening most often around 5-8 weeks. Now at 11w it hasn't happened in a while. I was concerned it was a soy/dairy allergy so I cut back on both of those but there was no blood in her stool ever so I doubt it was that. I'm thinking it's just her digestive system getting use to something I've eaten. If she seems happy and it's not consistent and there's no blood, I wouldn't worry. Ask your doctor if you're concerned though.

@lady grey: She's EBF. I'm not sure how much of an oversupply I have, but I definitely have a forceful letdown. She only eats for about 5-10 mins, and always only on one side.

What does your LO eat? Sometimes if mom has a large supply of milk babies can have green runny poop due to eating lots of foremilk.

So the other day I posted that LO hadn't pooped in 3 days. Well now she has a few times and its loose and green. She's 7.5 weeks and generally a pretty content baby but definitely has a lot of reflux-like symptoms - hiccups, coughing, spit up. But since she's generally pretty happy and gaining well the doc said no need for meds. No diaper rash of any other rashes - just some cradle cap.

Should I be concerned that the green poops and reflux mean some kind of allergy to something I'm eating? I am terrified of having to do an elimination diet.
