But I don't see an Xbox being outside the realm of possibilities for a Santa gift as long as I felt it was an age appropriate gift. But our biggest gift was always from Santa when I was growing up. They did some gifts from family members, wrapped and under the tree, and stockings and one gift for each kid from Santa. The stockings usually contained small, fun things--not too expensive. We go to bed with the stockings hung up, and then he can go on a "hunt" for his (now full) stocking in the morning and see what Santa brought. I love the magic of Santa and have no problem doing it, but I also think value of a dollar-wise, and compared to other kiddos, I'd rather most gifts are from us. That way if/when my kids are comparing notes with others, those kids aren't sad they didn't get as much as mine. (If it goes the other way, it's easy for me to tell my kids that Santa knows we can afford the things they need and want, so he gives more toys to others. I watched some socioeconomic Santa problems develop in my classroom because he'd bring one kid an x-box and one kid socks. The lady was a single parent and the little boy requested among other things an Xbox or some type of game console. She told him that his list was a little expensive and he probably wouldn't be able to get everything he wanted. The boy told his mom not to worry and let Santa get the Xbox.
