Here is what I did and it worked well. I didn't deviate from the regular 11-6 weaning block but I added an extra feed before his bath ( I actually took a bath with him and fed him in there that way it felt like a special thing so he won't be confused by it but still gets the extra feed) and I fed him from bedtime until 11 as much as he wanted or needed. Then at 6:30 when he woke I fed him as long as he wanted and needed.

It seemed to work well as he is eating again today and looks much better. My poor baby.

Thanks for all of the great advice and support.

I'm in no place to give advice but LO has been sick for for days and I've been giving her whatever she wants. She has been miserable. :(

@MrsMccarthy: you totally were! And you'll get back there :) maybe just letting him nurse almost to sleep will be a good compromise, regardless of the time.

Thanks everyone.

@Mrs.Panda: that's a good point. I hate to derail out plans but if we can get better quickly then that would make the whole process easier for us. I'm so bummed because I really get like we were on the right track.

I think the article that the doctor wrote says that in sickness to do what you can to comfort your baby and just go back to it when he's better? Maybe just don't let him nurse to sleep, just let him nurse a little but put him down awake but be there with him.

I would let him nurse. He's hungry and wants comfort—what's the harm? So he has milk in the middle of the night for a little longer—frustrating because you're sick, but I think it will be comforting.

Oh no! What bad timing. I would normally steer away from sleep training with illness or teething but night four just seems soooo close to your goal.

How long have you been training? I'd say, if it had been like, 3 weeks/if you've seen significant success, then definitely go forward with training. If not, I'd call it a loss and start over as soon as LO is feeling better.

My feeling is, LO needs sleep when he's ill, so once he demonstrated that he could STTN, then I tried to prioritize the sleep on the same level as other factors. If he hasn't demonstrated that yet, then I think it is ok to let it go for tonight.

Both my son and I are sick and he is on a food strike. I got him to eat half a yogurt (2oz), drink about an oz of cows milk because he refuses almond milk, he took a few bites of a banana and ate a couple of chips and drank a tiny bit of water but he is flat out refusing everything for the last three hours. He is begging to nurse. He doesn't have a fever but he has a bad runny nose, a sneeze and he took an extra nap. Should I break the rules of my weanin (one feed before bed and one I'm the morning) and feed him or should I hold out? He also has four new teeth coming in. This would be night four of weaning. I am sick too as I said and I have a sore throat. I feel so guilty.
