It was really strange to me at first, and I kept feeling that I should tip them, or grab the cart and run before they could start taking things out to the car. But now it's gotten to be a pleasant part of shopping. We know all the people at the store, and they know us, and we'll chat as they help us out (unless it's 500 below zero-- every man for himself, yo). They don't expect tips. Since they do it for everyone, there's no tipping. Another publix shopper in FL. They have offered and taken our groceries out for my entire life (as they have always offered this service even when my mom shopped there with me as a kid).<br /> I used to decline but then a bagger once thanked me for accepting and said they really like the couple minutes they spend walking outside for fresh air and a change of scenery. Since then I accept, make a little small talk, and hope they enjoy the little "break". They are not allowed to accept tips for this service (and wear pins that at so!) but about once a year I go online and compliment my store to corporate and try to name any employees I see regularly. I love it! We even have the drive-up system @pui: mentioned. </p> <p>These guys go above and beyond though (getting you an extra jug of water from across the store if you forgot, etc). After you bought your groceries they would be sent to the side of the building where you could drive up your car and people would put the groceries in to your truck for you.
