I was debating between buying new from somewhere with a good, easy return policy or trying to get one cheap on eBay or a local listserve.

Then I saw someone had *just* listed a barely used one for $80 buy-it-now. Most of the used ones sell for 130-160. So, even if he hates it, I should be able to resell it at a profit.

@birdofafeather: That's DH's other chief complaint- it doesn't go fast enough! But, it not rocking or going up and down is the worst! It's 5 different ways of going side to side :bummed:

I kind of wish I could borrow one for a couple of weeks for LO #2 to see if she'd like it. We didn't use a swing or anything of the sort for LO #1 (we eventually got a hand-me-down bouncer that we started using while I showered and stuff when LO was 4 months or so). But I'm curious to see if it's a magi baby sleep tool.

There is no way we ever would have bought a Mamaroo but my friend gave us hers as a hand-me-down. It turned out to be the only way to put our son to sleep (other than sleeping on someone) for the first 6-8 weeks. We used it for naps until he outgrew it.

But we didn't have any other swing to compare it to.

My LO wasn't a fan. She would stay happy in it for 15-20 min if she was already calm, but it never put her to sleep or calmed her down. We only had it for about a week and returned it (she was less than 6 weeks old though, so it might have worked better when she was older).

She loves her swing though!

It was too gentle for our LO. We tried a friend's for a weekend and he didn't hate it but it didn't calm him when he was upset.
He liked the fastest setting on the swing.

LO loves ours. We were lucky enough to get a swing and a Mamaroo for free via friends. But, I wouldn't pay (esp not retail) for a Mamaroo if we already had the swing. The swing is definitely better for calming her down and lulling her into sleep. She is content in the Mamaroo but if she's pissed, she will remain pissed. The swing is like magic though.

We didn't have one for DS and I wished I would have pushed harder for one. I bought one for DD and she LOVES it so much. She is almost 7 months old now, still fits, and still likes to chill in there when she is having a grumpy day or having trouble napping. I feel like it was worth every penny. I ended up selling both my swing and bouncer.

I actually bought a Rockaroo and returned it before my son was even born. I have since heard from 5 or 6 different friends that they are so upset they spent so much on a Mamaroo/Rockaroo because their LO didn't love it. Our son didn't even like the swing-he was super fussy and loved being worn in the Moby, sleeping in his vibrating Rock n' Play, or bouncing in his Bjorn bouncer. Those three things combined are less money than a Mamaroo and did the job for us. Hang in there-here's hoping your son grows out of his fussy phase soon!
