I do it standing or sitting behind LO, I think it's less in-your-face that way. Plus you can sneak attack when they're in their highchair and strapped down. Since X is old enough to understand cause and effect, what really helped my LO is after I suction him I'll show him all the mucus in the tube and say "Look at all that was in your nose!! Now you can breathe!" And I take a huge exaggerated breath to make him laugh and invite him to do it with me. The other thing that is really good for us, is getting them out during the bath every night before bed (not with the freida). BUT it also works so when she is really stuffy I do it anyway. I always do the saline spray first to help loosen things up (@Adira: the one we have is both drops and a spray- you can drop the drops up their nose, or put the tip right up to their nostril and squeeze and a mist goes straight up the nostril. C actually loves this and holds out the bottle for me to do it). </p> <p>Find youtube videos of doing it by yourself. I lay c in my lap with her head kind of tucked in my armpit and my forearm across her chest and arms, and use the other arm to hold the tube. They were putting the blue tube portion in their mouth and putting the red end in baby's nose. You should get suction if the red mouth piece is in your mouth, and the blue tube is in the nose! Just make sure all the tubing is connected well. </p> <p>I am a huge Nose Frieda fan!! It's one of my go-to baby shower gifts. I can do it myself but I essentially have to lay him down, crouch over him and use my legs to pin his arms, use one hand to hold his head, and one to hold the bulb. Even then, it's tough. It's definitely worth the fight though. Just be sure to use saline first! </p>
