I feel like I could have typed the exact same post. We're on the same boat (cycle #8). DH just did his SA and we are pending the results.

I've TRIED to take it easy but after hitting the 6 month mark, I started to get worried and stressed.

But I really don't think stressing or thinking about pregnancy makes you infertile. So many women around the world are stressed. When I got my first two BFPs, I was also stressed. So it's not that.

Biology works in the oddest ways. Sending baby dust to you!!

@pachamama: That's awesome! :goodluck: I hope things start moving forward for you. You're right, hindsight is 20/20. I just figured it would work itself out, but I've had issues with regular cycles since I was a teenager. I'm not sure why I thought it would get better miraculously.

We just made our first RE appointment at 9 months TTC. Looking back, I really wish I would have sought help from an RE earlier. It's been a huge relief that we are going to be seeing someone who knows what to do.

We waited 9 cycles before seeing an RE with minimal health concerns as well. One cycle with an IUI and we got pregnant. We are very lucky it ended up this way, but I say this to let you know that I would certainly recommend seeking additional help early. If I had known how easy it would be for us with help I would've done it so much sooner. Our insurance didn't cover in fertility related expenses, but that would be my only reason for waiting a year in your situation.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: Thanks girl. I am going to look into accupunture, I've heard good things.

@Leialou: Yeah I told my MD it had been a year. She ran a bunch of tests at like 6 months TTC. I'm not 23 for god's sake; something is obviously wrong and I'm not waiting that whole stupid year they recommend.

@kiddosc: well hey, 20% x 5 months = 100, you'd think it would happen in that amount of time :-P I guess that's not how it works..

Merry Christmas everyone!

Absolutely not, infertility is a medical diagnosis not your mind playing tricks on you. Don't blame yourself. I know it is so hard to wrap your head around why you aren't getting pregnant when there is no known reason to not be but it can take a healthy couple up to 1 year of trying to get pregnant so you still have some time. I was someone who really was infertile and needed IVF but I know a lot of people who got pregnant within a couple months and I know people who got pregnant naturally that took closer to a year or a little longer than a year.

I would recommend acupuncture. Not only will it help your chances but it will do wonders for you mind in terms of being positive and feeling better. I know this time of year can be so hard.. the last 2 christmas's I was super down because I thought I would have had a baby by then or at least pregnant but wasn't. But this year celebrating with a baby bump I can tell you anything is possible and to keep hopeful!

Don't stress that you can make yourself infertile! You can't. Infertility is a medical condition.

If you would like to see an RE you should be able to go. I spoke to my gynecologist after TTC 9 cycles and she ordered some tests for me and then gave me a referral.

@zarzar: no not at all, I used Creighton charting with my clinic so I have a proper record. I'd have a day or two of red flow and then it would just go brown, eventually tapering off to nothing at a week or almost a week. The doctor said often people think a short luteal phase or pre flow spotting is what signals low P but there are lots of variations. The brown spotting was caused by my endometrium not developing good blood vessels through a lack of P. There was no where nutritious for a fertilised egg to implant. All I was given was natural progesterone suppositories (quite a high level though) from 3dpo. Worked first time.

We met with an RE after 6 very short (20-23 days with an 8-10 day LP) and I got pregnant with interventions on Cycle 9. Honestly, I was a wreck by Cycle 4, convinced it would never happen for us. I completely understand your emotions, it is a very hard process if it doesn't happen easily. I think after 9 months, I would definitely see an RE (I'm in NYC, you don't have to wait a year depending on your insurance and whether you get a referral from your OB, etc). I hope it happens soon for you!

@Snowdrop: You mentioned that you browns potting at ten end of your period. I typically have about two days of brown spotting at the end of each cycle and I'm worried it signals low progesterone. I always thought it was just "older blood". Do you mind sharing what yours was like?

It took us a full year to get pregnant. I think after 6 months is where I really started to get upset about it. The month we finally conceived was the month I pulled out all the stops. I charted my cycle, drank green tea until I was swimming in it, and took mucinex around ovulation to help make more favorable cervical fluid. Who knows if any of that had an effect, or it's just coincidence. It helped me ( a little) to remember that with two completely normal healthy people there is only a 20% chance of a pregnancy occurring any given cycle, even when the timing is right.

First off, NO, NEVER think that you are causing yourself to be infertile.

It's not your fault. I'm not sure why we are put on this journey to wait.

What I would tell myself when I at 9 months of TTC is to hold onto hope. Hope is the one thing that will keep you strong.

I'm at month 31 of TTC (I tell you this not to make you feel bad or to lose hope, but at this stage, I'm not afraid to tell others that we've been trying this long. I'm all about IF awareness and not feeling like I need to keep this info in.) Anyway, even at this long journey, I still have hope. Some days are better than others. I question every aspect of my life and wonder what's the reason I was given this long journey to have a family. I've thought of negative thoughts like maybe we're not suppose to have kids... But those feelings can't feed my daily thoughts.

We have an IF inspiration thread, you should read when times are tough. I'll link it here soon.

Lastly, keep your head up, do what want to do. Stand by and remember the reasons why you decided to chose plan A over plan B. You might get discouraged but you have to remind yourself that you made a certain decision for a reason. This reduces the feeling of regret if a cycle doesn't work. I wish I had gone with IVF earlier and not done IUIs but I know why I thought IUIs would work.

There actually have been a lot of users here who have TTC for 9+ months. Some needed treatment, some didn't. Miracles have happened here. I don't understand why but I have to focus on my own journey and not compare to other. Though, it still happens. It's hard not to compare.

@pachamama: My progesterone was 5.1 when we were ttc, and the OB was like oh no big deal. When I got my bfp it was only an 11, and 10 was minimum to sustain a pregnancy. Luckily, the RE took it seriously and put me on suppositories immediately. It's important we advocate for ourselves no matter how crazy it seems!

Month 9 is where it got depressing for me. I have a friend who has been trying for 18 YEARS to get pregnant, so I know 9 months isnt long, and my heart aches for her. Everyone is on their *own* journey, and I don't think how long one is trying should ever be trivialized whether it's 9 months or 9 years because it's all they know. I had a short luetal phase of 9-12 days, and it varies month to month, so I sispected low progesterone. I was 26, DH 27, and someone told me if it takes longer than 4 months when you're in your 20s there's something wrong. So, I had that nagging in the back of my head, but waited the full year before seeing a specialist. At one year, DH sperm analysis came back perfect, and I thought wow it's me I guess. The same month we did testing with the RE, I had an HSG, and my tubes were clear. My progesterone and bloodwork all came back normal. She said we would start clomid the next cycle to see if it made ovulation stronger for me. Well, I got pregnant naturally three days after my HSG. Maybe my pipes just needed a good flushing, maybe the statiarics said it really does take a year even for healthy couples. I'm 16 weeks pregnant now. All that to say, yes, you can still definitely get pregnant naturally after 9 months. I'm pulling for you.

It sure seems like that sometimes, doesn't it? I've been trying for 10 months (likely will be going into month 11 in a week), and it definitely feels like it will never happen. However, know that you still have a ton of options being that you haven't even started any interventions yet. I've seen so many people get pregnant after trying for years, so just have hope!

Well the only thing that was wrong with us was low progesterone (main symptom being brown spotting for ages after period stopped and I got pregnant first month with the tiniest intervention (post O progesterone). Maybe just feel hopeful about January, it isn't all or nothing, some people only need a little help.

@blackbird: Here in NY I was under the impression there's just your regular ob/Gyn then after a year she sends you to a Fertility specialist at a fancy center. Is that an Registered endocrinologist?

@Boopers: thanks for your story. Glad you were able to get pg! 17 cycles must have been so hard!

I don't know how much more fake hopeful "positive thinking" I can do.
My doc said we'd start meds in January.
I just have this nagging feeling nothing will work. How negative of me.

We tried for 15 months/17 cycles before getting pregnant on our own. I got checked out without anything troubling coming up in my bloodwork and was about to have an HSG. DH had seen a urologist who said his semen analysis was fine despite some low progressive motility. The month we had given up and just accepted that we needed help was the month we got pregnant. DH had been taking a vitamin supplement that I think helped his motility. I don't know if that's what for sure did it for us since we didn't do a follow up semen analysis, but I like to think that's what it finally took despite me trying b6, preseed, etc.

Lots of ladies on here have gotten pregnant on their own after a year of trying, so I wouldn't give up all hope yet but I would start thinking about how long you're willing to try naturally before taking it to the next step. A reproductive endocrinologist is a good next step if you have fertility coverage in your health insurance. Good luck to you!

It sounds crazy but that's what I'm starting to believe...

Just got AF and on to cycle 9 of TTC. Please don't eviscerate me for being upset after 9 cycles; I know there are many, MANY ladies struggling way more than me....I am 31 and have no answers as to why I can't get pregnant. I have no health concerns really (progesterone is low and DH's SA revealed a minor issue; his "slow sperm" are "slow"- need to get more info on that haha) and it just won't work. I don't "feel" stressed; I'm sleeping well and I love my job and I exercise and have great family and friends. What is going on? Is there hope?

{{Our background: I'm 31, DH is 32, healthy BMI's
Ultrasound revealed harmless ovarian cysts she insists aren't affecting my fertility
Had an HSG 2 cycles ago; tubes and uterus were fine.
thryroid is fine
I'm taking Vitex and B complex.
short luteal phase, about 11 days.
I exercise 5 times a week but I have reduced the intensity.}}

After 9 months is there any chance of getting pregnant naturally? I'm feeling hopeless and feel like I am jinxing the whole thing. I am feeling so down around Christmastime. I don't want to celebrate. I just want to cry. Everyone I know either has gotten pregnant the first few months they tried or they are infertile.

I'm being a huge whiner. I apologize in advance. I don't know where else to turn; DH is super supportive but I know it is killing him to see me sad.
Am I making myself infertile?
