I think it sounds more boyish, but I could see it also being used for girls. There seems to be a trend in girl names becoming more masculine sounding. So many names that were once 100% boy are now considered unisex.

My DS is named Callan, so I def think boy! :) Two years in, we still love his name. Definitely some misspellings (even my MIL gets the spelling wrong half the time, lol), but it doesn't phase my love. :)

@NovBaby1112: i think that's the case with most names these days! even my normal 80s name can be spelled a bunch of different ways, so either people ask, spell it correctly, or spell it totally wrong, even old friends! ha.

R's name apparently can be spelled with an E instead of A and i've most commonly heard it as a boy's name, but it didn't stop me!

I definitely think boy, but wouldn't be terribly surprised if it was a girl.

But what do I know - apparently Finley is popular as girls name, and I had ZERO idea it was ever used as girls name until I named my boy that.

am I missing something?

yes, it sounds like "Kaitlyn" or "Kailyn" (without the t, but both spelled a variety of ways.)

Kay-lin, Kai-lyn, etc. is a very popular name in the Midwest and I never know if the person is saying "Kate-Lin" or "Kay-Lin"

It sounds like a boys name that people might use for a girl too. So, not totally neutral like Taylor, but I wouldn't be that surprised if I found out that Callen is a girl.

I don't think it sounds girly. But if I just saw it written somewhere (like on a class roster) I would have asked my husband if he thought it was a boy or a girl because I would be unsure. I also think if you use this name your son will have to spell it for people constantly.
