We had cradle cap that bad too at about the same time (but not the green poop). Our doc had us put hydrocortisone cream it and it started clearing up immediately.

@autumnleaves: that's great. My doctor also said it was normal/not dairy and 2 months later we discovered it was. I really hope it isn't for your sake!

We went to the doctor on Tuesday and he said it's not a food allergy. He said it was a bad case of cradle cap and suggested we bathe LO in anti dandruff shampoo. The rash is looking better - it's s still there but not as enflamed. He also said green poop can be normal so for now I am not on the MSPI diet. I hope the doctor is right about this and that we don't end up seeing blood in LO's poop.

My 4 week old has that! He has other symptoms so I suspected MSPI and doc supported me taking it out of my diet. It's clearing up already so I'm guessing his is not baby acne but a rash from cows milk in my diet...

Yes we had that rash and our DS is MSPI. They were hesitant to diagnose it so early with just mucus and rash, so the doctor said baby acne and oversupply as well. Diapers did progress to bloody.

@autumnleaves: LO has that. He's allergic to mammal milk and eggs with a mild soy intolerance and possible gluten intolerance (I have celiac and can't eat much soy, so we can't fully test). If you want pictures of his poops, I can share.

My doctor suggested a probable elimination diet. I avoided known and suspected triggers. 3 days later he was better. 2 weeks later completely normal. He failed dairy and egg challenges and had a milk reaction to soy. What harm is there in going off of dairy for a month? It sucks, but gives you answers.

ETA: there's three ways to do an elimination diet: a total elimination diet (Google Martha Sears elimination diet), avoiding likely triggers based on his reactions, and then cutting one food at a time. I did the likely triggers because I thought it was egg or dairy and half of the babies with dairy issues have soy issues. I'd rather detox once than keep cutting food from my diet.

Yup, LO had exactly this + green poop at 5/6 wks- turned out to be an egg white allergy.

@catomd00: @catlady: thanks I emailed the doctor yesterday ( did not send photos) but based on the email they suggested this is acne and oversupply issues is causing the green poop. They said to continue to block feed to resolve the oversupply and I can call them or come in to discuss/have the rash assessed. I think Tuesday would be the earliest I could come in but I wanted to go ahead and see if others have experienced a similar rash.
I am thinking of going ahead and starting an elimination diet.

Our baby had something that looked like this on her cheeks, plus the green (and eventually bloody) poop as well. She did end up having MSPI but we discovered that the rash was either being caused by or aggravated by her sleeping on her dad's chest when he was wearing a specific fleece jacket. We never actually did figure out if the MSPI was responsible for the rash too. Sorry if that is not helpful. Definitely call your pedi about the rash + green poop combo though. (Btw, ours was very fussy and did not sleep well, so you might get lucky).

You should really ask your doc asap if you suspect an allergy.

LO is 5.5 weeks old and at first we thought the break out on his face/head was acne but it seems to get worse and redder after feedings. Now we are wondering if this is a sign of a food allergy. It is starting to spread to his chest and upper back.
He is gaining weight, sleeps well, not too fussy but the other concern is the green poop.
Has anyone's LO had a similar rash and if so was it an allergy?
Thanks!
