So, I started supplementing and he was back to birth weight by two weeks.</p> <p>I pace feed and burp frequently but he has gained weight pretty rapidly. By 6 weeks, he was already 10 pounds. I read that he should only gain about 1/2 oz-1 oz per day, and he is gaining like a pound a week. That's where most people start out, so you can both just learn and improve on that together (assuming that there even needs to be any improvement). Lowmilksupply.org is a great resource if you want to try to get to BF full time. There are lots of things you can do to help protect and even build supply even if you are having to supplement. As much as you can, just try putting him to the breast...I have read so many stories about babies who did not latch, did not latch, did not latch...and then one day, they got it. And if nothing else, it's good snuggle time. I'm trying to find one story in particular that I read where a mama was EPing and then was able to start nursing around 3 months or so...anyway, happy for you!</p> <p>As for over feeding him, if you're doing paced feedings, burping after every oz, etc, I wouldn't worry too much about feeding him too much. Did he gain weight slowly in the beginning? If so, he might be making up for lost time. DH is away all next week so that offers us plenty of opportunities to cuddle, try to nurse, and spend mommy/son time together.</p> <p>I heard swallowing/hiccuping in the beginning when he was fussing still. He kept pulling off the breast though so I assumed he wasn't latched well. There was always milk on my nipple when he pulled off though.</p> <p>Once he started nursing contently I couldn't hear him swallowing anymore but I could see his ears wiggle. </p> <p>Ugh.
