@Mae: DH says his nighttime diapers are totally full and I believe him...it never takes much with Earth's Best. During the day though, I don't know what to do. He has a really skinny waist and not a single roll anywhere! Size 3 in other brands seem pretty big on him so I might pick up some overnight diapers and maybe Honest Diapers.

A lot of people will size up for overnight and stay in the smaller size for day time. Might be worth a try!

So on the overnight leak, was the diaper completely saturated? Or was it that it leaked before it was as wet as it could be?

I don't really know since we do CD mostly an just disposables at night, but we were having blowout issues with our CD and I found out we actually had them snapped too large. When I sized down she stopped having issues. So I guess I wonder if it is at all possible that the diapers are too large? My LO is almost 17 lbs and she is still in size 2 with no sign of growing out of them I don't think. But she is sort of long and lean so if your little man is a little chunkier in the middle, maybe not.

@skipra: I've been pretty careful about pulling the ruffles smooth and checking to make sure they're not tucked under. It's possible that the diaper change before that was when the front was too far up meaning the back was too low...but if the fit is getting that finicky then it might be time!

Ugh, I hate that EB works best for him when it's balloony and doesn't look nice under his clothes.

We started needing overnight diapers when my son was about that size. He's about 23 lbs now and still wears size 3 with no problems during the day and overnight he wears Huggies overnight in size 4.

Stupid question, but are you making sure the ruffles around the legs are not tucked under? We get overnight leaks whenever DH does the last diaper change before bed because he keeps the ruffles tucked in.

Yes, each time I sized up it was because of consistent leaks or blowouts. At first the next size up seemed ridiculously big but after a couple of days I realized it was better all around. Blowouts/leaks stopped and they left less of an indent where the elastic is, which seems more comfortable for him.
I say you should buy a small pack of the next size up and try :-)

I seem to remember having to size up a few times because of capacity issues even though it still physically fit him just fine. The next size up seems ridiculously huge but it stopped the leaks!

perhaps try the check size up? I always double check ruffles and ensure that it is on tight enough. I did notice with N that he was leaking because he was getting too tall for the diapers in his torso.

I remember hearing it's time to go up a size if LO keeps having overnight leaks...so if he's had blowouts two days in a row (after never having them) and a bad overnight leak, does that mean he needs to go up a size? He's between 17 and 18 lbs and Earth's Best size 3 appears to fit well; I can't imagine he needs size 4.
