@Adira: Thanks! I was wondering if that was it, LO was also tested for MSPI as a baby (we had mondo issues) but they wanted it for the fat content!

@purrpletulips: I believe goat's milk has very similar proteins to cow's milk, so I'm afraid to try it...

@Adira: what about goats milk? I had a coworker use that because she was anti-WCM for various reasons.

@LuLu Mom: Oh! Xander's allergic to cow's milk, so that's why! Otherwise I'd be using WCM because it's easier and cheaper (and seems to be the norm)! Your pediatrician might want your LO on WCM because of how much protein it has (8g/serving), whereas almond and hemp have a lot less (1g and 2g respectively). Not sure how much soy milk has.

@Adira: Mind me asking why you are thinking almond or hemp like instead of WCM? I'm always interested in this. We were going to do soy milk but our doctor was very adamant about using WCM if her stomach/allergies would allow it (I was nervous about dairy.)

I think you could do it more quickly than this, but even with this plan, it doesn't make any sense to increase the pumping times (from Week 1 to Week 2 for example, going from 20 minutes to 30 minutes). Just leave your pump time at 20 minutes.

@Adira: i was up to 30 min sessions because my supply had dwindled down and i was trying to get as much as possible at that point. i cut down a session weekly. and i also adjusted nursing on the wknds a few weeks after that (previously we were still nursing more than i was pumping at work).

@Smurfette: @mamimami: @sunny: @mrsjyw: Okay ladies - here's a question! How LONG were you pumping when you pumped? I usually pump for 30 minutes, so I was thinking of essentially cutting out 20 minutes of pumping each week. If you normally pump for 20 minutes, then cutting out one pump session a week is essentially doing the same thing I'm planning, right?

@dojo: I didn't used to get much at my 6:00 a.m. pump, but the last week or so, Xander hasn't been nursing as much in the morning and I was able to get over 3oz this morning!!! That's why I was thinking of keeping it. But maybe what I could do instead is try to push Xander's nursing back to 6:00 instead of 5:30. Maybe he'd eat more then and it would be easier and make more sense to cut out that pumping session.

As far as engorgement, I used to go 4-5 hours between pumping and didn't have an issue (although I was DEFINITELY full), but with how my supply has been lately, I'm scared to cut things out in any drastic way!

@Corduroy: haha, no, I plan to still nurse after week 8, assuming my supply is still there! And I haven't fully decided what I'm giving Xander instead of WCM. Either almond or hemp milk probably.

@mamimami: I'm only nursing once a day (except on weekends when I nurse four times a day). I don't think I could easily add an evening nursing session unless I change up Xander's daily schedule completely (currently he gets a bottle at 9:00, 12:30, and 4:00), and I'm not sure how to go about doing that.

@Smurfette: @mamimami: @sunny: Gahhh, I'm so scared of dropping too quickly and being insanely uncomfortable!!!

@Dandelion: You're right, I could probably drop the 6:00 a.m. first... I'm just scared to do that since I'm planning on keeping the morning nursing session, so I want my body to know I need milk in the morning, if that makes sense!

I'm beginning my plan of dropping pump sessions as well. (So excited!)

I would say you could probably drop the 6 am one first (do you get a lot when you pump at that time so close after nursing?)

My plan has been to wait longer in the morning to pump and basically I am closing the gap between the two sessions I do at work and will probably reduce it to one daytime pump session in the next week or two. I also considered dropping the one time I pump at night first but I thought getting some time back during the work day would be a more worthwhile priority. It's hard because I still want to keep up with being able to send enough to daycare for the next few weeks and I really don't have much of a freezer stash. Do you have many issues with engorgement currently if you miss a session?

I would start by dropping the first pump at 6 am. You could probably get away with dropping that and the noon pump at the same time. I agree with @mamimami: you could probably taper off way much faster!

1. I think you can taper off much faster, like in 3-4 weeks!
2. I don't know if you should go from a 10 min pump to nothing. But the good thing is you can always adjust on the fly!

Are you only nursing once a day? If you could nurse in the PM I would start by just dropping all those pumps that happen outside work hours.
