Unless it's constipating I let them eat as much as they like. Oh, I also limit blueberries because of bum staining. :silly:

I limit certain things- like she will eat tons of cheese and I'm afraid if I let her eat as much as she wants she will make herself sick. And I always give fruit at the end of a meal
Because she will just fill up on that instead of more filling foods. And sometimes i won't open another package of something. But unless it's for a specific reason like that I let her eat what she wants.

It's all over the place. Tonight for dinner, I think he ate almost 1/3 lb. of sausage, along with some sweet potato fries and a few nibbles on broccoli. But sometimes he basically doesn't eat dinner.

The only limitations we place on food is that he doesn't get to eat all of something--tonight he couldn't take a third helping of sausage until everyone else had an opportunity for seconds--and we limit toppings. (For example, he might eat an entire tub of sour cream if given the option. We let him have a few scoops and then put it back in the refrigerator.)

Right now her portions are teeny tiny because she barely eats. But some days they are HUGE and I just wonder where she puts it!

I'm so interested in this! Some meals or even days DD will barely eat and other times she eats more than I do at a meal!
She is 16 months and we try to not limit food (other than obviously unhealthy occasional treats). If she seems to be eating a lot of a certain component of a meal I may cut her off from that but still allow her as many veggies as she wants.

On average what size portions does your toddler eat? Do you ever limit portion sizes (not counting obviously 'bad' foods/sweets)?

I always see cute little portioned toddler plates on Pinterest, but DD just turned two and eats some seriously huge portions sometimes! I'm always amazed - where does she put it?? Usually it's with foods that she loves (duh) like pasta and baked beans. Other foods she'll do regular portions, but even then some of the recommended portion sizes seem too small for her appetite. Unless it's sweets or something terrible for her (like fries), I don't usually limit how much she can eat.
