@MamaMoose: OMG I could have written this exactly. A has gone insane about sleep, I have no idea how she went from being so very very sleepy, to so very very awake - it's bizzare! I have learned putting her in the ergo and walking around with her is my best bet. She cries her eyes out but I know I'm holding her, she's fed and she's okay and that crying might literally be the only way to get her to sleep because at some point she does fall asleep. I feel awful about it but have no idea what else to do because rocking, singing etc generally doesn't work anymore. Makes me really sad.

Yup! He knows the instant we go into his room its to tonight haha. I've tried different awake times, putting down drowsy, Eric etc now its stressful bc he sleeps way better in arms and only 25 mins in crib- so I go back and forth on how to make sure he's getting sleep but not making it so hell only sleep on me. Babies are hard!! I almost wish I didn't have the video monitor. I used to think he slept 35 minutes but now I can see he's just rolling around quietly at the end with his eyes open (but doesn't actually fall back asleep)

My LO fights sleep when overtired. Sometimes it can take up to a week to make up his sleep deficit. I would try to minimize overtiredness by putting her down as soon as she shows any sleepy cues and hopefully it will work itself out in a few days.

I don't think 12 weeks is too early to learn how to fall asleep on her own...especially if she is fighting your efforts. If she's trying to break free of your arms when you're rocking her to sleep that's telling you something, right?

My LO started resisting all of our efforts to get him to nap at 6/7 weeks old so we just started putting him down awake. We would let him fuss for up to however many weeks old he was (so 12 weeks = 12 minutes) and if he was crying hard we'd go in right away to rub his back or pick him up and shush him then we would put him back down. I don't think it ever took him longer than 10 minutes to fall asleep though.

But again, if she is fighting everything you're doing to get her to fall asleep, there's no harm in seeing if maybe she wants to just fall asleep on her own.

My LO is 10 months old and fights sleep really bad especially for naps! He has always been that way.

@MamaMoose: What's worse is that my LO doesn't like to be held and will never fall asleep in our arms. Now that's she's older, we'll just plop her in her crib and shut the door behind us, and she'll pass out. But if we try to hold her, she'll keep fighting it. :-(

When she was younger though, it took a lot of holding and rocking (5 S's) to get her to sleep and then we had to verrrrrrry gently set her in her crib once she was out.

Yes - like she is a boxer defending her title! Trying to head her off at the pass (starting the nap process before she shows tired signs) has helped, but it's not a *sure* thing. (((hugs)))

DD thinks sleep is for the weak. She doesn't want to miss out on anything so it was a fight to get her to sleep for a very long time.

YES. Also for naps. Hes 4 months old...it makes me so sad because he gets so upset, and also so frustrated! Like, WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING SLEEP? SLEEP IS SO GOOD! I do agree with @Bao: that if I get him before he shows tired cues, then it's better...sometimes that means only an hour of awake time.

LO used to do this when she was younger when she was too tired. It sounds like you are putting your LO down early enough though, so being over tired shouldn't be an issue, in the case....hmm...maybe try even a little earlier even by a few minutes and see what happens.

My LO fights sleep soooooo badly. Particularly for naps. Once I finally get her to sleep she is a good sleeper... But getting there can be quite painful. I try really hard to stick to only 1 - 1.5 hours of awake time before I start trying to put her down in order to avoid letting her get over tired but as soon as I start doing anything to encourage sleep (swaddle, pacifier, rocking/snuggling, white noise) she starts flipping out. She was just hysterical for 45 minutes while I tried to get her down. She wouldn't nurse wouldn't take her paci and wouldn't stop screaming. She finally passed out on my bed from utter exhaustion. HELP!! How do I help her fall asleep more peacefully.

ETA: she's 12 weeks old so a little early to learn self soothing techniques.
