For us it depends on the toy and how much we participate in the play. My son will play with his lovey that my mom knit him, Freddie the Firefly, soft blocks with textures and tags, the screwdriver out of a plush toolkit, Sophie the giraffe, and some little cars that I just got him. Sometimes a ring stacker but that is hit or miss. He'll entertain himself for up to 20 minutes but sometimes he just wants us to be next to him while he plays. Sometimes he is content to play for only 5 minutes.

We don't have very many toys.
We have a baby einstein exersaucer that my daughter LOVES and has been using since she was 4 months old. She can play in it for hours if I let her.
She has a Sophie le giraffe that she loves to play with too.
I think my daughter takes after me and is easily entertained.

We have a few toys that already keeps little one entertained for a while even though she's only three months old. She loves to lay on her play mat an look at the hanging animals (now she can even reach up and grab/bat at them which makes it more fun). She also likes to sit and look at this mirror toy that lights up and sings songs , it's for much older children but she likes it already. We have found that at this age she mostly likes things that have faces or easy to see eyes and she will "talk" to them.

She also has a few rattles and balls that she kinda play with a bit. They are to teach cause/effect so they learn when they touch it the toy makes noise. We got ones that are really easy to get to make noise and have small little handles.

In our experience, my first DD really got into toys around the age of 2... and especially around the time she would "pretend play"... that opened up a whole new world of toys, story-telling and learning. Toys were used when she was younger too of course, but it's just that everything was so new to her that anything could turn into a toy.

We buy very little in terms of toys, but he plays with the stuff he has. He's really into turning the pages of his board books and spinning things around on his Fisher Price racetrack. He also plays with this stacking rings and cups regularly.

Maybe your LO is overwhelmed by choices? Have you tried limiting the number of things that are available to her?

My daughter is 18 months and I swear we can go through an entire weekend where she plays with almost none of her toys so I know what you mean. Some kids just aren't into toys. Lately she likes to read and color. Otherwise, she is just happy to hang out alongside mom and dad.

My baby girl is only 3 1/2 months, so I don't really expect her to play with toys that much. She'll play if I put them in her hand. She loves to grab things, so I'll stick a rattle in her hand but she doesn't seem to know what to do with it yet. I think so far I'm having more fun with her toys than she is :)

Sometimes I really wonder about these guides I read or is it just my daughter. I buy her every recommended toy for her age and she shows interest in them for 2 minutes and never looks at it again except to toss things around. Is this normal behavior. My house is filled with activity gyms, jumperoos, Lamaze toys, stackin cups, teethers, squeaky dolls, etc and all
She ever chases after are tissue and my flip flops!

Does anyone else's kids not like to play with their toys? Talkkg other parents and some tell me their kids didn't play With toys until almost a Yr old. And Some kids seem to enjoy theirs at a very early age. When did your kids start to really play with their toys constructively?
