@Canoli: thanks! I may get over dramatic when she is sick too. But really it's just been so many different things this winter. Maybe it wasn't so bad last winter since we had so much snow I just never went anywhere! She's back to her old self for now and I'm so glad!

@Foodnerd81: it is! And he's a totally different kid, which is what made me throw that out there when you posted this :) I wasn't sure how many ear infections your LO had had, but it sounds like she's been sick a lot :( I hope you all feel better soon!

@Applesandbananas: she's only ever had three ear infections in her whole 2.5 years of life, and since this one came only a month and change after the last, the doc thought maybe the one in January hasn't fully cleared up with antibiotics the first round. We are going back in two weeks to have it checked again to make sure it's really gone. So right now we aren't considering them but if she continued to get them frequently we certainly would talk about it. My sister had them and I almost did when we were little. My poor mom, now that I think about that!

That must be extra hard on your son when his hearing is impacted like that. I'm glad the tubes are so helpful.

@Foodnerd81: have you considered tubes? They were a life changer for my LO! With really bad ear infections, or even just mild ones, hearing can be impacted. Have you ever had a cold where you get fluid in your ears and you feel like you're underwater or something because it's so hard to hear? That's very similar to kiddos with ear infections. My LO is almost profoundly deaf so ear infections drastically affected him in every way, tubes made a huge huge difference! He got his first set after chronic fluid was detected, though no infections, but once that set fell out, he had three ear infections over 6w and we went back for a second set.

@Foodnerd81: we are in the same boat as you. He's been a mess and I was wondering what the hell I was going to do. Was it being two, his new brother, the devil? Monday was horrible. Then. Monday night he woke up screaming with a fever of 102+. Took him in Tuesday and he has an ear infection. This afternoon it's like he was back. He was sweet, happy and funny. Thank goodness cause mommy was about to run away.

@Periwinkle: YES. And now I'm constantly taking her temperature and tying to figure out if she's sick or tired or hungry or thirsty or grumpy and I just thought all this would be easier to read at this age! And it is much easier than when she was a baby but still not easy.

@Revel: yeah I had an ear infection in college and it was truly awful. And I knew what was going on.

@Periwinkle: yup. I feel terrible now about how we were yelling at her like that. Ugh. I think I'll remember next time.

@Foodnerd81: Ours was an ear infection that really made her out of sorts. Her first so I had no idea how much it would effect her. They must be really unpleasant for them

This is absolutely, positively what's going on in our house this week. LO (3 years old) is a generally strong willed child and stubborn child but when he is sick (like now), something takes over entirely. The tantrums, whining and overall upset comes out and I honestly don't know how to make him feel better. The hardest is before we know he's not feeling well when we treat the bad behavior like, well, bad behavior. Then of course the guilt comes along once we know he's not feeling like himself, but it's like he's become someone else.

I feel your pain and wish you strength as she continues to get better!

@Revel: yes. I thought maybe with the new baby she was just always going to be like that and I almost forgot how awesome she usually is. Please no more ear infections!

Yes! We had a series' of illnesses mid January to mid February and it was like she was a new kid when she got better. I feel like I forgot what her regularg personality was, we were in such survival mode.

@catlady: oh yes! When she had the stomach bug, or really even a bad cold, she can be so snuggly and just lay sadly on the couch. It was obvious that she felt sick. The ear infection she has just enough normal moments that I don't think she's feeling sick, just so angry. I'm so happy to have my normal sweet girl back. Even if I'm totally walking on eggshells with her still.

YES. I have noticed that we have three "kids":

1. Super sick LO (high fever or really bad illness) is the snuggliest, saddest kid ever. Loves juice and sleeping on me.
2. Regular sick LO (bad cold or something) is a tantrum-y hot mess. Loves Mickey Clubhouse and nothing else.
3. Slightly sick or normal LO is energetic, sassy, and sweet. Thank goodness. :)

My daughter is younger, but when she had a double ear infection around 10 months I felt myself wondering where my sweet child had gone and why she had been replaced with a screaming maniac banshee. So yes, I think maybe it could be an ear infection thing!

C was diagnosed with another double ear infection on Monday. Basically from Friday to Tuesday she was completely insane non stop back to back tantrums over every single thing. It was awful. Even after I knew she was sick I was thinking she might need a psychologist, maybe it was a reaction to her new baby sister, or the terrible twos...

And then the medication started working after 48 hours and she is my old sweet toddler again! Stubborn of course, but just nothing like she's been the last few days. And all I can say is thank god for medicine.

Is your LO that dramatic? Or maybe ear infections just really affect her more? I feel so bad for how many times I yelled this weekend...
