DS1 never freaked out when talking about it before, but after those 4 year old shots...I don't dare bring them up. :silly:

No, my kids are weird. I thought it was just my oldest one but now my youngest is starting to be the same. The oldest one totally stopped crying about shots around 14 months old. Now she's super interested and likes to watch while they give her shots or draw her blood and she like to "play shots" at home, which is actually her mimicking giving blood draws. Her iron was low for a while, so she had several blood draws in the last year. She'll tie a tourniquet on my arm, give me a shot, and give me a sticker, haha. Anyway, she got excited when we went to get her flu shot.

My youngest cried as an infant, but at her last flu shot she didn't. Older sister was right with her watching and really excited about watching, so I think that distracted her.

@winniebee: Omg, that's N too. I basically told her right before we got to the flu clinic. In the end it didn't matter because she got the flu mist (which is still accepted in Canada). Her brother was so much better. I stuck my iphone in front of him and he didn't even flinch during the shot.

DS freaks out at the sight or mention of bandaids because his first association with them was a shot. So now he thinks a bandaid is bad and he could have a scrape on his knee and he will be even more upset if we try to put a bandaid on.

He's also started associating our ped with shots. He gets shy and starts to cry when she walks in the room.

Yes, ever since the 4 year old shots it's been miserable for my now 5 year old. She kicked the nurse (with cowboy boots) during her flu shot. She had to get a antibiotic shot (2) recently as well that involved me and three nurses holding her down. She had strep a few weeks ago and cried hysterically when I said we had to go the dr, she just assumes now that every dr visit will involve shots. Any reasoning we have tried doesn't work for her.

Ugh...yes. My 4 year old is not a happy camper if we tell him early. For his flu shot at his 4 year appointment, I started telling him that if he wanted to get big and strong like daddy (he idolizes daddy) then he needed to get his flu shot to make him stronger and fight off the sick. He seemed to take that better, but as soon as the shot hit, it was hysterics.

Yes, my son had a rash on his foot so I took him to the walk-in and he cried the whole way there because "I don't want to go to a doctor!" The last time I took him was for his flu shot. I told him a hundred times that we weren't getting a needle but he didn't seem to believe me.

Just dealt with this today as DS1 has his 4 y check up and needs a flu shot. He couldn't stop crying at breakfast b/c he was so scared of it. I was able to talk him down and agreed to give him a cookie when it's all over. We'll see how this goes. . .

Yes, T freaks out if he knows a shot is coming. He whined and cried the whole morning of his flu shot. I took him yesterday to his brother's well visit because he needed his 5 year boosters (and there is apparently a measles outbreak at local college) - and I didn't tell him until RIGHT before the shots were coming. I felt a little bad about the sneak attack, but I don't think telling him way in advance helps the situation!

My daughter is scared to death of shots. We were going to take her for a flu shot last month but ended up cancelling because she got sick. When we told her she had to go, she started crying uncontrollably. This morning she had to go to the doctor for an ear ache and she kept saying, "I don't want a shot!" Poor kid. (she's getting one (flu shot) and her dad has to deal with the consequences because he's taking her)....

Anyone else have a child that freaks out at just the thought of a shot?
