My two year old happily sticks her face in any puddle of water she can find...which is super gross at the local park/splash pads. We never put him in lessons because he would have been that kid screaming bloody murder. Bath time used to be stressful for him. Now he is comfortable and worked his way up to wearing floaties. I'm bringing him in today to be evaluated for lessons at our pool. We started swimming when he was 10-ish months. He's now 21 months and his favorite thing is being dunked. Fully submerged (obviously for a second). He laughs hysterically. Right now they're both at a happy time and are making good improvements. They ask to swim every day. Even my 22m gets home and points outside and goes "poool?!" We were not in our pool but twice last summer. This year DD1 (4) just figured it out herself. I was pretty impressed! But she's definitely not at the stage of swimming without a PJ on yet. She already wants to cannonball into the deep end. 😂😂 Should be fun trying to keep her out of that end when her older cousins are here. We did swim lessons starting at age 2.5- she was doing amazing, really excelling and swimming independently- when she had a bad experience with a sub and wouldn't go back to lessons. She'll swim now with swimmies but won't take them off. It makes me so sad and angry- her confidence is just gone. She didn't like the water at first but those early swim lessons helped get her used to it. Now, she's a fish. She is learning strokes this year so she is having fun swimming from her Dad to me in the "deep" end (4ft). She also enjoys diving for toys. We hardly ever put her swimmies on anymore because she prefers to try to swim by herself. Does your child like to swim?
