They have movie days once in a while for ore-school age and up. I know during the school year older kids get movies like once a monthish.

I'm fine with this as long as they are watching appropriate movies. I trust the ladies. I don't know what they watch but movies like minions wwe watch at home anyways.

DS and lots of the kids are there 45-50 hours s week, so if a few hours s month are spent watching movies I think that is fine.

Meh. My kids home daycare has tv on a lot. My son is usually so busy playing with his friends, he doesn't even watch it typically.
Doesn't really bother me. He's 4.5 though. If he were younger, it might. Idk. I've always been pretty lax about screen time.

Ours does with strict guidelines. Only for kids 3 and up, PG movies must have parental signature for permission, and it must be planned/posted. My son's class watches a movie that goes with their theme once a month (so, when they studied Africa, they watched the Lion King), which I personally think is excessive. But the kids are allowed to opt-out and do other activities while the movie is on and they still have recess, so I try not to mind.

In my pre-k class (3-5), we watch movies only occasionally (winter holidays and spring break time), but do it more frequently in the summer.

There aren't screens there.
It would bug me. I hate how much screentime she already gets at home. I pay for her to go there to get more stimulation, if she's just watching movies she could stay home for a lot less money.

I have never seen a TV at daycare, so I don't know where/how they would ever show a movie. My daughter is still too young to pay attention to movies (11 months), so there really isn't a point right now.

Our old, at home daycare did movies occasionally like Halloween and Christmas. It wasn't too big of a deal. Our current daycare doesn't have tvs, so no movies. We also haven't taken our almost 4 year old to a movie yet because of his attention span.

Oops, I didn't realize Minions was PG. I know DH has turned it on for DD.

Daycare sometimes resorts to screen time when it is raining (we're Californians so we melt in drizzle) or too flippin hot (like this week) since they don't have AC. I don't love it but the kids and the DCPs are human. They don't need to be doing their best learning every single moment.

We're at an in home center and occasionally DCP's husband sets up a folding chair in the middle of the kids and watches football or baseball after 5pm. I cannot understand why he doesn't watch in another room since the kids would drive me nuts. That doesn't really bother me either.

@Truth Bombs: I'm planning to. I know that right now it's because it's way too hot to take the kids out (heat indexes have been in the 105F-110F range), so I try not to let it bother me, but I am planning to bring it up with the director. When she was younger, she never saw the movies, but now that she's in Toddler/Early Preschool, she gets lumped in with the big kids once her main teacher goes home at 5:00. I'm also working with my company to change my schedule so that I will pick her (and her sister in Jan.) up before the movies come on.

ETA: I've been limiting her screen time at home to make up for it.

Minions has violence, so for that age, I wouldn't be okay with it. Plus, the one where they morph into that weird purple thing is kind of scary.

I would need to know ahead of time and I would have had to see the movie in order to give my go ahead.

I rationally know that a movie here or there is not going to hurt my kid, but no I would most definitely not be ok with showing movies at that age. I would be ok with it for an older child (4+) for a special occasion.

I gave permission to watch Dinosaurs this week. Every parent in the class has to approve. They are learning about dinosaurs this week. I think every once in a while it is a nice treat for the kids (and teachers). This is the first time they have done it since we started in May.

Our day care does allow it. I was upset at first because B was so little and because I'm really sensitive about letting him develop interests that don't involve screens (I'm from a family of techies and visiting them is a truly sad sight).

Now I kind of like that they watch stuff. We can't seem to work TV time into our routine at home since we come from work late and hang out outside, but I do want DS to see movies I loved when I was younger. So we're getting the best of both worlds in that sense

I'm not a fan of paying other people (daycare, babysitters, whatever) so that my kid can watch a movie or TV. They can do that with me!

...only exceptions would be a field trip/event (like @T.H.O.U: mentioned) or maybe a very specific holiday occurrence. But even those should be one-off special things, age-appropriate, etc etc.

No, omg there would be riots with some of the (very vocal, very "involved") parents at our school if they showed movies. There were near riots over the fact that the kids were going to use a kool-aid packet to do 1 art project (not allowed to eat/drink said kool-aid) and that the kids were sometimes given canned fruit instead of fresh fruit with lunch. Movies, ahhahahhaa there would be hipster pitchforks grabbed!

They have, on occasion, watched movies when it coincided with the lesson of the week. So one week they learned all about bugs, and on Friday they had PJ/movie day and watched Bug's Life. I have no problem with that.

But once D came home and his paper said they watched a movie (also Minions, I think) because it was raining outside. And he talked about things from ET that I know he'd only know if he'd seen the movie. I went to the assistant director about that. She did talk to the teacher about showing movies just because it's raining/too hot to go outside - they have plenty of other things for the kids to do indoors!

ETA: They watched The Good Dinosaur during their dinosaur week, and I was concerned about that because D is kind of sensitive to some scary scenes. They hadn't checked with us about it first. Luckily he loved it, but I was really afraid we'd be dealing with nightmares from that one!
