My LO goes to a center (Goddard) and they don't allow it, unfortunately. Before that she went to a Childtime and they didn't allow it either. I did look at a Celebree that allowed it. We're in MD. Hope you find a great place! You are smart to be looking early.

@dc yoga bee: Yes, LO goes to a small in-home daycare and they are cool with cloth diapering. They just put the dirty diapers in the wet bag I provide. No problem. Oh and they use regular disposable wipes (I use cloth wipes at home).

Yes, thank goodness. We put liners in which they toss when they change her. She does tend to get more diaper rashes at school, so occasionally we have to switch to disposable for a few days to put Aquaphor on it. Oh, and they do a disposable at naptime because she pees too much. We send a wet bag that I hang on a hook every morning, I bring the soiled ones home at night.

They also allow glass bottles, which I was surprised at!

When we lived outside of Philly, we toured 5 daycares. All but 1 agreed to cloth diaper. I toured 3 when we moved, and all of them said no, that it was against State regulations. We moved within the state, so I don't understand that. But since we absolutely LOVED the daycare that we found here, I was not going to argue about it. We still cloth at home.

our does as well. It's an in-home. I send the diapers and a wet bag. Where as with a disposable shed dump everything in the trash with ours she puts it in the wet bag and I deal with it when we get home.

ETA: per this its legal in all states. http://clothdiaperguru.blogspot.com/2013/01/cloth-diaper-daycare-laws-for-50-states.html

In general cloth diapering is legally permitted in daycare - the diapers need to be properly managed to abide by regulations. There are a few states who require doctor's note to say it is needed (generally writes something about sensitive skin). At my daycare there is a mini trash can with my daughter's name on it and her diapers go in there instead of the regular trash. A "complete" diaper change is generally required so with gDiapers the daycare wouldn't reuse the cover during the day the way you might as a mom. I don't think you would get much benefit from that type of set-up with disposable inserts.

@dc yoga bee: I did a cost analysis of cloth vs disposable and you break even with using both after 1 year. Takes about 6 months if you're all cloth. just fyi :) I started off trying Honest Co and 7th Generation and Target and I ended up liking sam's club the best, for both diapers AND wipes!

OMG DC childcare is insane!!!! I work in College Park in Maryland and I looked into daycare near my office but it's so pricey and the wait lists are crazy. I know from my other friends that DC doesn't allow cloth diapering.

We are hopefully going with a daycare that doesn't cloth diaper, so we are settling on eco-friendly disposables for now, and hopefully we'll end up nanny-sharing and then we can cloth diaper. Most of my friends who cloth diaper used disposables in the beginning anyway, so that's our plan - we have the 7th Generation and Honest ones to start out with, and then we're going to see what we like and go from there. Costco has an eco-friendly brand as well that we might check out.

@dc yoga bee: The two daycares we have had (outside of the US) don't do cloth. I've used gdiapers with disposable inserts with both of my LOs and LOVE them. I would just put them in a regular diaper (Nature Babycare) before going to school. This was ok for me because my son didn't start daycare until he was 2, and was potty trained at 2.5. Maybe if you explain/show the gdiaper system to them, they might be more open to it? All the have to do is flush or trash the insert, and then they can change out the gPant when necessary.

@dc yoga bee: I don't know how the disposable inserts work, but I will say that as H has gotten bigger, she pees through her gDiapers cloth inserts and once her diaper is changed a few times, the cover feels damp. However, I really like the fit of the gDiapers covers. I think Flip does disposable inserts too, so you may want to check them out.

Our center does them. We bring a Rubbermaid bin everyday and they put them in there. They wouldn't let us do a wet bag. They put the diapers in ziplock bags (they do this with disposables too) and stick them in the bin. It's worked out great! I know in ohio it is absolutely allowed. Try reaching out to your local child care resource and referral agency... You should be able to find them through Child Care Aware, which is a national agency.

@lawbee11: Oooh thanks!! DC doesn't allow cloth diapering, and Virginia doesn't have it listed so I'll call do some digging tomorrow. The center that does allow it is in one of the large federal agencies here (Virginia). Since it's government managed, I'd find it hard to believe they'd cloth diaper if it was against government regulations. Maybe the lady was confused, because the other two centers were both in Virginia and said it's against state regulations.

We planned to do the gdiapers with disposable inserts since DH is only on board with disposable inserts as far as cloth diapering goes. I hadn't run the numbers yet to see if it even made sense to pursue cloth diapering if we were just going to be using disposable inserts 100% of the time. Now add in the daycare we really like doesn't allow it anyways. We will probably just do disposable, and maybe they make some diapers that are a bit more environmentally friendly. Thanks for the responses!

@dc yoga bee: I would check to see if it actually is against state regulations as I've heard that is true in some states. If it is and some daycares do it anyways, not sure how ok I'd be with that (like what else are they doing, ya know?). I found this link that provides info on most states:
