@travellingbee: they're heavy, they have way too many parts to wash, the nipple was really long.. I like our Como Tomo bottles so much more.

@locavore_mama: They are more "green", they are more sanitary-- you can clean them more efficiently, and plastic bottles, even BPA free ones, still have some level of BPA or polymers in them. After lots of use and heating/sterilizing, they begin to break down. We have been using plastic so far, but I haven't given him more than one every few days because I EBF. I am now going back to work and know I will be washing them and sterilizing them daily. So I'm wondering if glass might be a better option. Not sure yet...

@travellingbee: @plantains: They start in the toddler classroom, so the youngest kids are 14-15 months. They have to pour their own water into their own glasses and clean up any messes on their own. It's been great for building personal confidence and situational awareness.

In our classroom there was 1 broken glass all year last year! Kids ranged in age from 16 months to 3 years.

@Mrs. Jacks: Impressive! My DD loves to use an open beker but it makes me nervous, perhaps I should try it. A blog post would be really great.

@plantains: We use plastic cups at home (but not sippies, just regular cups even for the 17 month old).

Lala is getting to the point where we will trust her with glass, but she is very bonded to her yellow Ikea cup, so she mostly uses that.

They use plastic or Corelle dinnerware at home and they have metal lunchboxes for school.

Maybe I should do a blog post about this part of Montessori.

Ours did. However, once C reached about 7 to 8 months old they asked if I would get plastic bottles because C wanted to hold his bottle (and I'm all for independence) and the glass bottles were just too heavy for him to hold. So we switched to MAM.

I want to get glass bottles but wonder if daycare will allow it... I know I can just call them, (and I will) but I was just wondering what everyone else's experience has been.
