DH's mom just gives dates and says she coming. Drives me nuts. It makes me so angry and we fight awbout it. Like @mewtill: SO always feels obligated to accommodate them.<br /> This time his dad has decided to show up on my birthday, 4 days before my due date, and leave the day after. I told him he should come after the birth of the baby. With my family, we always call and arrange dinners in advance. My family always asks &amp; solicits times that are best. DH's family never asks and just emails to say when they're showing up. MIL in particular does this. In fact, we tell her NOT to book/change flights because we're not sure it's good for us...and she does it anyway! DH always feels obligated to accommodate them, even when it's inconvenient for us.<br /> Maybe I'm just feeling sensitive because my maternity leave is almost up &amp; we've only had a handful of days without family in town. MIL decided to come visit with SIL in Jan &amp; I'm pretty pissed that we'll have more people visiting (this is her 3rd trip since Oct). They would definitely check first though, even though right now we don't have anywhere for them to stay with us anyway.<br /> MIL always asks. FIL, we are lucky if he tells us when he is going to be in town for other reasons, and then it's drop everything so we can meet him for breakfast. But my parents have done the book and tell thing to my sister. It's not that they mean to be rude.... it's that they get so excited about booking their trip and they just forget. Meanwhile we would have 3-4 people staying in my sister's teeny tiny place, it would have been nice to ask, or at least tell her first. I never really minded, because I'm almost always around and I like my parents a lot. Plus it's not easy for them to find flights coming from the Philippines, so there's that too.</p> <p>But these things are definitely trickier now that I have a full house! Luckily though I have a brother who lives nearby, so between the two of us we can usually figure it out.</p> <p>Does your family ask if it's ok to visit and confirm travel dates... or do they just book and tell you? </p>
