My dad follows directions well. My ILs are more lax, give foods I don't approve of and spoil the kids more. I try to overlook it since we don't see them that often.

Mostly just the food thing! I want to let it slide so badly, but I just can't wrap my head around an endless supply of cookies, candy bars, etc. if they could be reasonable about it, I'd let them give DS a treat, but there's no moderation, it's "here's a cookie for each hand and when you're done, you can wash it down with a king sized chocolate bar!"

Yes actually, for both sides. I've had a couple more questions about how long I'm breastfeeding than I'd prefer, but no one has said anything negative. Everyone asks if she is allowed something.

My in-laws are amazingly supportive and respectful. MIL asks before she does anything and is always careful about respecting boundaries.

My side....not so much. It's an issue because my mom watches LO when I work, so we've had some very intense conversations about how my 11 month old will not be eating pop tarts. She wasn't exactly supportive of my BFing either, but we worked through that.

Yes. They ask ALOT of questions and AFAIK follow everything we ask. I kinda wish they would change her a little more often (even if she hasn't pooped) but otherwise I really can't complain.

My side of the family is really good, always ask me if she's allowed something etc. Dh's parents don't really get a chance to disagree since dh had a talk to them when they fed lo ice cream when my back was turned when lo was 7 months.

Yes although they have gotten lax. When LO was younger she had some serious eating/medical issues so they would listen to me due to that severity of the situation. But as she's grown out of it, they have been pretty easy handed with the candy/cookies/fruit snacks.

About 95% of the time, yup! The one thing that always happens is that E doesn't have a bedtime with gma and eats more junk but it's like...once a month, so whatever :). She doesn't run stuff by me, but will just hand E things like Capri Suns and then i just take them away. Sorry not sorry right before bed. Really not a big deal.

I had issues with my mom NOT respecting my parenting decisions (cloth diaper, sleeping on back) BEFORE E came. Now it's not so much an issue

For the most part they both do, yes. My parents seem to think I'm pretty weird but they do what I ask.

My inlaws don't question anything and do everything. EXCEPT my MIL spoils the boys so much. I know, I know, I shouldn't complain about this but, I don't care, it is honestly a problem.

They don't disrespect them as in they go out of their way to go against them. But I get a lot of laughs about making my own baby food, try to stick to organic and unprocessed snacks, and "extended" BFing. I put extended in quotation marks because 8 months to them is too long. They keep making snide comments about how "he doesn't want milk" and "he likes food better than that stinky old milk". This is mostly my family but my FIL makes fun of everything I do too...although DH's grandma and cousins are actually very nice and accommodating.

If they caught wind of the fact that we are anti-spanking they would eat me alive. DH and I have a pact to never bring it up.

In laws do. They act like everything I do is weird, but they don't argue me.

My parents think I'm too lax. I often have to remind them I'm the parent and if I say it's ok, then it's ok.

Not really! Both sides are equally annoying and they are smug and defensive about their perfect choices.

I would say for the most part they do, but for some reason I'm a broken record when it comes to food choices. I'm very laid back about food, but not a fan of my kids eating candy and cookies for dinner. They always say they understand but then suddenly forget by the next time we see them. It gets exhausting, but I suppose it could be worse!

Is your family good about respecting your parenting wishes?
