@californiadreams: Haha yeah it's sort of pathetic. Maybe it's also pregnancy hormones? We're hoping for 6mos maternity. That's the max they'll hold my position and I think we can swing it financially. So at least I'll get some good time home.

Nope. She gets up early so I have about 3 hours with her in the morning before drop off. When I drop her off she is always so excited to see her friends so we have a good parting. After I pick her up we have another couple of hours together so I feel like we have lots of time for fun during the week too.

@swurlygurl: yes, i understand. Our nanny is amazing with LO and he seems perfectly happy with her. sometimes when he is crying and i have to leave, i wait outside the door and listen and he stops within a minute. our nanny is really good at distracting him and getting him happy again..... but i miss him and often in the morning i would rather stay home with LO than go to work!

Yes :(

Not in the guilty way though - I am 100% okay with leaving her at daycare. Her daycare provider is a very close friend of ours, and she has a blast playing with the other kids.
My heart breaks because she's so stinkin' cute and I just miss her so much and I'd rather play with her than sit at my desk for 9 hours.

Monday's are always hard because she likes to sleep in so we are rushed and I don't get my morning snuggles. I know I'm doing what I can for her & she loves daycare, so I just have to keep that in mind.

I feel bad saying it, but not most days (there are always those random really really hard days). I see her in the middle of the day, though, because I nurse her at lunchtime. And due to my DH's hours, he usually picks her up by 2 and she spends the rest of the afternoon with him so she's only away from both of us for 5 hours or less per day. I'm always antsy to get home at the end of the day, but I'm comfortable with our setup.

@californiadreams: yes, it does. Especially because my husband worked all weekend and our playgroup was canceled so we got to just hang out all weekend. This morning, our nanny said to him "come say goodbye, mama has to go to work" and I died a little inside. We have family that watches him and he's doing awesome, so that makes me feel a lot better...but I get jealous of women who are happy in their situation...not necessarily home or working, just happy with their set-up. I hope to also go part-time after the next baby.

Yup. I like to work, and need to work to preserve my sanity, but am still drowning in mom guilt. I've only been back a few months though, so hoping it gets better. I also find myself irrationally annoyed with out nanny that she gets to spend all day with my baby. Considering I'm the one that pays her to do this, I fully recognize that it's crazy.

@mamimami: i understand that. I am working to support my kids/family too....but we could manage with me part time and DH full time. My job is a full time position and it is early in my career, so i need the experience (and the benefits for my next mat leave!). I don't think i could stay home permanently (that's why i am planning to do part time in the future), i didn't feel LO or I were ready after just a year so it has been hard. though i admit i am more used to it as time goes on.

No, I very rarely feel sad/heartbroken dropping LO off. I really don't have any "mom-guilt" about daycare. As a mom, it isn't my job to be there 24/7 to care for her, it's my job to make the decision about what care during the day is best for LO. Would she get more out of hanging out alone with me all day and attending a few short group activities/classes, or does she get more out of being immersed in activities with several other peers? What is best for me, mentally and financially? Those answers are clear to me, so I don't feel guilty about them!

I do often miss her during the day, but I don't feel guilty about that :)

No, it isn't hard for me to leave. It is rare that my kids are up before I leave for work, though, so I think that makes it a lot easier. Saying goodbye to them when they're awake is harder.

@septca: i get what you mean. since the time changed, LO has been sleeping in more and we get less time in the mornings, I think that is why he has been more clingly. He has been having a hard time at bedtime too so we are experiemting this week with waking him earlier in the mornings. hopefully it gets better.

I love our nanny, but i feel bad leaving because i feel like it should be MY job to stay with him at home and take care of him until he goes to daycare/school...sigh.

It's funny for me, but it's either total heartbreak or I can't drop her off fast enough. There's no middle ground.

DD slept in super late this morning, so I barely got to see her before it was time to leave. Days like this break my heart. But other mornings, when she is super clingy or cranky or does not want to eat breakfast... those days I am so excited to hand her over to our nanny (who she loves) so I can enjoy a cup of coffee in peace.

I am generally OK leaving LO with his caregiver because I can see how happy he is there. This morning, though, his caregiver was sick so we had to use our backup. He is not as familiar with her and did not want me to leave. That broke my heart into a million pieces as I left.
