We have a 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bedroom house, but we want 2-3 children and still wanted an area for an office and guest room. I grew up in a home with a basement and it's where we spent most of our time (the family TV room was down there) so I was excited to buy a home that had one. Because it's the norm in our area, I would think it would be weird to have the water heater, HVAC, and water softener in places other than the basement. Our old home had a very cellar like basement, couldn't finish it if you wanted to...but it was storage, a laundry space, and our storm shelter.</p> <p>Our current home has great sized basement that was "finished" when we moved in...but we gutted it and are in the process of finishing it off right now. It will have a bar/kitchen area with a pool table and an extra living space. Laundry is also down there, the litter boxes, and an extra bathroom. Is it a necessity? I'm super sad thinking about not being about to use it for the next 3-5 years as we save up money/slowly fix it.
