My husband is gone all the time and it's just me, the nanny and now my two little ones. My nanny has a dog but he is friendly and useless haha. We have an alarm system and there are armed guards in the actual building but it is NYC and after watching that show with the professional thieves, they like to go where the money is! We listed our home for sale a while back and the realtor had pictures of the pool/spa room and game room and living room and it made me really nervous.
