I think he likes his mom's cooking more, she's a "farmer's" wife cookers, and uses whole creams and all that fatty good stuff, where as I usethe fat free/low fat stuff. I also make casseroles and his mom does not, they were a meat and potatoes kind of family.

He likes mine more. I'm more adventurous than his mom because his dad will not eat anything different. Seriously, I made a pasta salad one day at his parents house. I put hard boiled eggs in it. His dad came in the house and said, "ugh, what's that smell?? " That's the last time I ever cook anything for him. Thankfully, my husband lives that pasta salad. :-)

We have never talked about it. His mom was more of a home maker type, and I make him do his share in the kitchen though, so he might prefer the taken care of aspect of his Moms cooking, as opposed to me who always makes him help me out.

My MIL is a fantastic cook, but DH prefers my cooking...and so does my MIL! When I was napping on Christmas Day she was upstairs telling the family that I was the best cook/baker in the family (while she was eating her fourth slice of the red velvet cake I made).

My MIL was constantly feeding 3 males so her cooking is mostly about quantity and speed. It was pretty impressive to watch her churn out food. Their dinner time wasn't very formal, it was more like: "are you guys hungry?" then she'd make batch after batch of spicy pork, just refilling the same big plate in the middle of the table, before she even stopped to take a bite herself. Now, later in life, we tend to do takeout more often when we're with her, and she doesn't mind at all.

I don't cook often, but when I do Rob Sr. loves it. We both do get sick of takeout. I grew up with two parents who both cooked often and a very formal dinnertime, so it's tough to compare since MIL's and my styles are so different. It is nice when Rob Sr. appreciates my cooking though. :)

There are a few things he suggested I get his grandma's recipe for. But both me and his grandma cook as a hobby (she could run a food blog, but she's too busy growing her own herbs in a spectacularly landscaped yard. I want to be her when I grow up.) His mom only cooked simple stuff, since she had 5 kids all with different tastes. In fact, he worked at a sandwich shop FOR the free food! He loves my cooking, provided I include enough meat, cheese, or fish.

I don't even have to ask--I know DH prefers my cooking. His mom was never the greatest cook and would default to takeout whenever she could. For potlucks, she's the go-to KFC/take-out eggroll person. On the other hand, I love to cook and experiment.

DH has actually told me he likes my cooking better than his mom's. His mom is a good cook, but she doesn't like things very spicy and cooks mostly traditional American food. I use lots of spices and cook a wide variety of types of food. I think we're both good cooks, just very different styles.

I think he likes mine more, but his mom didn’t do the majority of the family cooking growing up, his dad did (luckily for me!). She does have a few traditional Mexican recipes for rice and fideo that she has showed me how to make, but when I make them they pale in comparison to hers – so in the case of those dishes, we both prefer her cooking!

@Boogs: I don't think that I can't make my food like my MIL, I refuse to! I cook like my mom taught me. So with traditional things like matzo ball soup, I cook my mom's recipe, which involves big chunks of meat and veggies. He likes small pieces like his mom does. Even though with her soup everybody always has to add salt to it no matter what, you don't have to do that with my soup. But that's part of the tradition that he enjoys I guess.

MIL is a great cook, but she's more of the cook for hours/traditional family recipe cook and I'm the innovative/efficient cook :P... For the most part, DH likes my cooking because both of us have very similar, diverse palettes (whereas MIL cooks traditional All American dinners). He also likes spicier food than she tends to flavor her recipes. We both love her recipes, but cooked a bit more to our tastes and al dente ness... (she overcooks veggies, etc.)
