A couple of times when he was first born, we've been able to go out and eat and he slept in the car seat. But we go quick places like panera bread. He doesn't like to be in his car seat.

I'm jealous of the moms out shopping with their babies in their car seat. I can barely make in the car ride to the store. He has to go in the carrier in order for me to shop in peace.

It always depended on what mood he was in. Sometimes great, sometimes not so much. But he only slept in it at restaurants before turning 6 months. After that he got too busy to sleep, but wasn't able to sit in the highchair yet.

I do miss the infant seat for things like that though!

@mandb36: Isn't that so frustrating?? I have to think that it's a good thing because it mean's she's observant and taking things in. But geeeez, I would love to have her fall asleep - hah!

Nope! He eats and flirts with the waitresses when we go out to eat! We never go out unless it's between naps though because he only really naps in his crib or takes short car naps.

Never!! She usually blows up her diaper, screams, wants to be held and eats while we're at a restaurant. I'm always the last one eating :(

We haven't gone out to eat in a while because she's been cranky every time we've tried. However, we're trying to go to lunch today so we'll see. Hopefully she'll do anything but cry!

@BabyBoecksMom: Our baby is super alert too. It's even hard for her to sleep at home sometimes.

OMG! Never! I'm so jealous of people who's baby will sleep anywhere. DD is too alert and nosy to fall asleep. We don't go out much w/ her, especially if she's tired because she will only sleep in the car or her crib (forget about trying to get he to sleep any other way)

For the first 5 months, LO would just fall asleep in her car seat when we went out. Now she likes to sit on my lap or in a high chair and watch everyone in the restaurant. She is very well behaved though; and its pretty easy to balance her on my lap and eat with one hand. She does try to reach to grab/eat my food though; so I have to be careful of that. If we are out at dinner and out past her usual bedtime; she will people-watch for a while, and then fall asleep either on me or in her car seat.

Only if it is really nap time. I misjudged brunch last weekend and did the carseat thing with Tyler. I had to rock him in it in order for him to fall asleep and it took awhile and even then he only took a quick catnap.

Otherwise, it's play play play. He doesn't even want to be in the high chair really.

I swear, we can go out and see all these parents out with their babies. they put their babies in their car seats and they just sleep or play through dinner.

Our child? No way. It's like she can sense that we are at a restaurant. She wants to be held, cooing loudly, playing with napkins, plates, glasses, silverware, etc while we're there. Perhaps why we have gone out once in the past two months? lol. She's almost 6 months old.

Do you have the sleepy restaurant baby or the "there's no way each of you are eating today" baby?
