I hate to say this, but no. And I'm a nurse.

But I'm no where close to having my "dream job", I only work part time nights in an assisted living facility, I LOVE working with the elderly and those with Alzheimer's and dementia so I definitely don't dislike my job.

But being a nurse was never my dream job and I'm not really sure what my dream job would be. The only thing I'm really interested in is psychology, mainly criminal psych. But I'm not sure I ever want to go back to school.

I guess that depends on what you mean by fulfilling. I enjoy my job, genuinely like the people I work with, it helps support my family, and I couldn't see myself doing anything else. With that said, it is a means to an end.

@WinterBee: This is how I feel about teaching, too. I would like, someday, to do something more specialized in curriculum and planning but I feel like I need to put more years in and I am not sure what it would be. I considered becoming an instructional coach but decided against it.

Mostly! Ask me around Independence Day and I may say differently. Lol. My job offers a lot of freedom. I'm not stuck doing one thing everyday. I have a lot of creative input at work and that fulfills me. I grew up in and have a passion for the park I work at so I genuinely love seeing it succeed.

By all accounts, I have a good career. For the past few years I've worked for small tech startups (rather than big tech companies) -- it's mentally challenging work that requires creative problem-solving, and I get to work with super smart, passionate people. And it pays well. But, it's so male-dominated, so anti-work-life balance (the companies I've worked for vocally pride themselves on a lack of work-life balance). In my current company, I am the sole female employee -- and, that can sometimes be lonely. Since becoming pregnant, I literally have to remind myself why I should love it: I'm helping build a company and product from scratch, I'm challenged daily, and by some small measure, what our company does helps people. But, I'm in a funk where I just don't live, breathe, love this stuff anymore. Anyway, I find myself naturally focusing on the negatives. But, my salary is far greater than my husband's and I'm not willing to jeopardize our current financial comfort to switch careers. Besides, I'm not even sure what else I'd do!

@prettylizy: I'm a teacher, and I love my job. It absolutely fulfills me.
Some days it drives me crazy, or I don't want to go... but that's with any job.
I can't envision myself doing anything else, until we have kids and I become a SAHM, which is my ultimate dream job! :)

Not really. I had a lot more ambition when I was younger. Also at my old job I was A LOT closer with my coworkers so it made work life more fulfilling. Now after 2 years at my company now I still don't really feel it, plus after having a baby, work really is just a paycheck... I really rather SAH!

Yes. I honestly have the best of both worlds in that I get to stay home and only work 2 days a week for a great boss. While there are crushing lows and big highs in my work, I like that I'm helping people and feel I'm making a difference - which is the reason I got a Psychology degree in the first place.

Parts of it are interesting, but there are parts that make me want to gouge out my eyeballs in boredom. I do a lot of the same thing, just for different events. It's okay, but I think I'd like meteorology better. I just don't want to completely start over with schooling.

No. Which is really really sad to me because I'm a social worker and that job is "supposed" to be fulfilling. I chose health care social work because it was what really interested me. But it turns out that all I do is discharge planning. Sometimes it feels like I went to school for 6 years and got a Masters degree to spend much of my day making copies and faxing charts.

I'm looking into something else, but I'm not sure what that would be. In a perfect world, I'd work at Planned Parenthood or another similar agency. But I'd take a HUGE salary cut to do so and there are times when we struggle financially as it is...

@Mrs. Pen: I have coworkers who love it, but holy shit, is it eye-gouging for me. My eyes just glaze right over. It doesn't help that my case load is dropping as I get closer to maternity leave, and will soon be at zero, so I'm also incredibly bored (both because the subjects are boring and also because there's little to do 95% of the time). I really struggle not being engaged

@prettylizy: not at all. I work in insurance/claims. And quite frankly it's the opposite. I am good at what I do and I get paid well to do it. But the things I deal with on a daily basis are honestly draining. However, my job allows me many freedoms I wouldn't have without it sooooo I get my fulfillment from those types of things and of course my "non" work life is very fulfilling!

Not at all. I hate my job right now. It's high stress, and the work itself is boring. But I'm concerned about getting a new job. In my current industry, you're expected to work long hours. I've been at my job for a long time so I have the flexibility to leave "on time." If I leave my industry I'd take a big pay cut. I don't know what to do.

My job fulfills my need to exercise my brain hard on a daily basis. It involves a lot of research, a lot of writing/drafting, and complex problem solving. I also do a lot of project management stuff too, and public speaking to both large and small groups, which I enjoy. I work for a very honest, generous and supportive company and my small team is made up of all high achievers which pushes me personally (which I like, as I hate to be bored). My job is also ever-changing, which I like too. I never know what issues and problems will come to our team, and what I'll need to solve.

I think my job fills a need I have, which is to exercise my brain, think logically and solve problems. One of my favorite things to do is research why something behaves a certain way.
It also surrounds me with people that I might not come across in my day to day life. I've worked with people from all over the world!
