Yep. So crabby that she refuses to eat. She cries when I say it's dinner time.

Maybe the third time she enthusiastically goes to the dinner table. Then again, she refuses to eat and cries. Eventually she'll take a bite and then devour her dinner.

Awesome, I say.

It's THE WORST time of day for us. We get home around 5 and I try to have dinner on the table by 6. If it's much later than 6, it is absolute meltdown city. We've tried giving a small snack, but then all he wants to eat is the snack and throws a fit when we try to get him to eat dinner food rather than snack food.

I heard that they call that the "witching hour". Not really applicable since I sah, but I think it might be from either a lot or not enough stimulation? A friend of mine who had that problem realized that it happened when her son didn't get enough physical activity.

My son does, so my mom has been letting him run around the playground at school for an extra half hour after they get out at 3. He eats a snack as soon as he gets home and dinner is around 6.

This happened last night with our son, although things did get better after he finally ate some dinner!

I'm not sure what we can do to make things better though, because we usually eat right away after getting home! Or maybe he wants some down time before dinner starts... or a snack during the walk home.

Does your kid get crabby in that time between getting home, and eating dinner? How do you manage it?
