@MamaChin: a friend of mine is an herbalist and she recommends buying capsules of garlic oil, breaking them open, and putting the oil in the ears. She says the garlic oil kills bacteria.

This was our first one that we ended upset the ER for (cold for 3 weeks, fever of 103.7 for 3 days) so we are on antibiotics. I've never tried the garlic.

Thanks everyone! He has every sign you guys said, puked in the middle of the night, fever, cranky, cries at diaper changes. Guess we're going to the ped tomm!! Do they need antibiotics every time? Or can a mild case just resolve on it's own?

My LO had chronic ear infections when he was 1 to 1.5 years old, and had seldom tugged his ears. We got tubes since and haven't had an ear infection. He hasn't been sleeping well lately, and what you said made me wonder if I should start worrying again (because his tubes might have fallen off). The only difference is, now at almost 3 he would probably at least tell me his ears hurt but hasn't done that yet.

In the last two months DS has had two ear infections and the only clue was a fever. He was cranky as well but he didn't pull at his ears or anything like that.

No, his fever and inability to sleep we're the only clues.

No, never, and he's had way too many ear infections. He doesn't complain his ears hurt, either. The only symptom is fever.

My LO never pulls his ears. His biggest sign is puking in the middle of the night. Sometimes it's hard to tell...

My only clue was he cried when I laid him down for diaper changes. He slept on his belly so it didn't interrupt his sleep and no fever or anything to give me a clue. I took him in for a cough he developed and was surprised by the ear infection! I think it never hurts to have them take a look to rule it out.

My LO just got tubes cause we never had any signs she had an ear infection till we saw drainage after the ear drum bursts.

Nope, never. Over the summer he had a double ear infection, and the only symptom is that he had a scary high fever that sent us to the ER.

My LO never had an ear infection until 2.5 years old and we had no idea bc she never tugged on her ear. She's 3 and has had 2 ear infections. Basically she was sick with what seemed like a bad cold/cough but she just couldn't shake it. She would have a fever and seem extra tired and have a bad night of sleep. Motrin would help bring the fever down and make her feel better but if we stopped giving it to her the fever/pain would come back. By day 5 we take her to the doc bc you can't just keep giving Motrin. Both times she had an ear infection and the antibiotics cleared it up.

Dd is just getting over a major, 3 week long double ear infection. The dr couldn't believe how red and full of mucous her ears were.
She didn't once touch her ears. I knew from her fever and general crankiness

LO is 2 and has never had an ear infection. He is getting over yet another cold and I think he has one but am not sure. He slept like crap last night, woke up screaming every couple hours, se with his nap today, waking up every half hour. He also threw up and had a slight fever this morning. He isn't touching his ears but refuse to let me suction his nose, even though he's never minded before. I'll probably take him to the ped if he screams all night again but wanted to get everyone's take. TIA!
