My daughter calls her dad Daddy, and I think it's because I'm pretty good at referring to him as Daddy in front of her and she takes many of her verbal cues from me. Mr RnR very rarely refers to me as Mommy or Mama or by my name, so she came up with her own term for me. We thought she was saying "Bishi" for awhile and were wondering where she came up with something so weird, but we figured out she was trying to say "Fishie" which makes sense because I affectionately call her "Fishie" all the time.

My husband and I were best friends before we started dating, so when we first started to refer to each other as "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" I would start giggling. Because of that, we started to "practice" saying those words to each other and it stuck. We're not into terms of affection, so we STILL call each other "boyfriend" and "girlfriend!"

I really haven't thought about the possibility that our children would start calling us by these words until I read this post. Right now Claire calls me "umma" (the Korean word for mommy) and her dad "baba" (the Chinese word for daddy) so we don't need to worry quite yet...my husband and I don't usually call each other by our names either, so we'll need to think of an alternative just in case our girls DO start calling us "girlfriend" and "boyfriend!"

We actually had to teach her our names the other day because she just wasn't picking them up, and I'd heard stories like yours and wondered if there was something wrong with us! Hah.
She'll repeat after me sometimes when I call my husband's nickname, and sometimes she'll call him "Daddy Honey".

I used to call Mrs. Bee by her first name: "Bee". But then Charlie started calling out "Bee!!!" when he wanted her to come.. Seriously Charlie... don't you think that's a bit inappropriate?

So now as much as possible, I avoid using Bee's name. I call her "honey" instead. For a while, I tried calling her "Mommy" because that's what Charlie calls her... but let's be honest, that's a bit weird. I just couldn't do it.

What about you: does your LO call you by your first name? If not, does your SO have another name that he or she uses when he wants to catch your attention?
