Yes and no. Growing up all veggies were out of cans, most things were boxed/frozen. Lots and lots of sweets at my moms house, and tons of salty snacks at my dads.

the kids are huge fans of chicken nuggets, tater tots, and the like. But I make majority of meals and only buy fresh veggies. We rarely have sweets or chips in the house, but we do let them have it when we do. And they are fans of happy meals ;)

No mine won't! Growing up all of our veggies came from a can except for onions and during holidays when the fridge looked like the produce section of the grocery store. Growing up I had just about every Little Debbie treat imaginable at my disposable. Depending on who cooked, mom or dad, we ate potatoes or rice with most meals. We also ate a lot of pork for both breakfast and dinner.

The one thing that will probably remain exactly the same is the amount of meals not prepared in our kitchen. Growing up we went to restaurants often, but now we just do takeout.

NO WAY! Not even a little tiny bit. Buddig turkey on white bread? Instant Hungry Jack mashed potatoes with no butter or salt? Vegetables out of cans? Nasty porch chops with no seasonings or pepper or salt?

I might be sounding like a snot, but we don't eat much meat and eat local and organic as much as possible. My mum didn't cook and didn't eat vegetables. So. Yeah.

I don't think I ate a chicken nugget as a child, they're my son's main form of protein.

My mom cooks everything at home, she can make a meal out of a sack of flour, a few eggs and some random vegetables, I think it's because she grew up in post WW2 Europe where things were tight.

Growing up my parents both worked and my mom cooked a lot of from box foods. After college I completely changed my eating habits and my boys eat mostly homemade from scratch foods. I find healthy ways to make my old favorites for my boys. Both of my boys are gluten, egg, dairy free so it complicates things a bit. I love cooking so it works for me. My mum loves when I visit because I love cooking at her house too.

Completely different. When I was young, neither of my parents worked. My dad grew vegetables in the garden. Money was very, very tight so my mum would buy meat and fish but we never had treats at all, no cakes or sweets or anything. Meals were always stews, roast meat with potatoes & veg, or salads. My dad hated "foreign muck" as he calked it, so no Indian, Asian, Italian style food. I never tried pizza until I was a teenager and didn't have take away until I moved out! Very sad (!) but my diet was very healthy, organic and fresh.

Poor E gets loads of processed food at home - fish fingers, chicken nuggets - and we eat out a lot. There just isn't time to cook proper meals every day. When I do cook, I make a lot of curries, Bolognese, chilli, stir fries. She also gets yoghurts and sweet treats like banana loaf. Its convenient to grab them for snacks. She does eat lots of veggies and good stuff at daycare and her grandparents' house though. :bummed:

Pretty similar, but so far fewer delicious things that take time, like pancakes and stews... we don't have as much help as my parents did so I have to cook quickly. The kids have fresh fruits and veggies all year, which I didn't, but on the flip side when we had them in season they were much better than anything you can buy in a store in NYC.

Not really. I ate way more home cooked Asian food as a kid than DS gets now. My dad was an awesome chef! Me, not so much. I can follow a recipe, but some recipes just can't be replicated because my dad cooks "by taste" which I can't do! Sucks! Wish I could though!

No. I was told that I was a picky kid (I remember being picky), but in retrospect, I realize now that my parents were also very picky. So there were very few things that we ate, mostly "american" or chinese food, lots of white rice or white potatoes and meat. We also ate alot of frozen or boxed stuff. DH and I try to avoid processed foods, and we eat more veggies than I did as a kid, plus we tend to order ethnic foods when we eat out. LO loves thai, indian, and mexican food. I didn't try those until I got to college because my parents didn't like them (and to be fair, they were much less available back then).

Pretty different. I cook cleaner meals with lean meats, veggies, and they're typically not carb heavy meals. I also don't use butter. My mom made heavy dinners but wouldn't allow snacking throughout the day so we were always really hungry by dinner time! I'm lenient on snacking. Carrot sticks, yogurt, cheese sticks, applesauce are always available for the kids.

My parents never ate out, made desserts and never bought fast food or snacks while we were out. I'm not like that at all. If I make clean meals all week, I don't see the problem in indulging here and there. The LOs have a treat probably twice a week. I hope to teach my kids that healthy balance is the way to go.

Yes and no. Growing up we had white rice with EVERY SINGLE DINNER, which DH and I very rarely have. We eat a lot less carbs and casseroles than I did growing up – growing up we had pasta several times a week, white rice basically every single day and casserole type dishes several times a week. We ate a fair amount of ground beef growing up, which we very rarely eat in our house now. Salad was always iceberg lettuce which we really never eat.

But, we are similar in that the vast majority of our cooking is home cooking from scratch and the food is good! Similar also in that there was never a lot of junk food available.

We had a mix of traditional from scratch Korean food (so very healthy and varied and nutritious) but complete junk for snacks and whatever American food we ate after school when we were home alone. We had what we cereal we wanted, my mom left white bread, bologna, and Kraft singles or PB and jam for sandwiches, a jug of punch since it was cheaper than juice, and a bunch of fruit snacks, cookies, chips, etc. Candy galore.

So DS gets a fair amount of Korean food but he also gets pretty balanced American food. I'm not super strict on sweets and juice however. He gets watered down OJ when he's sick and he gets a few Teddy Grahams and mini marshmallows as a dessert after dinner and stuff like that and I don't think it's a big deal.

My mom hates cooking and I really enjoy it, so my son definitely eats differently. I use her recipe for spaghetti sauce though, and serve spaghetti and meatballs weekly which was a tradition in my house growing up.

In high school I had a soda and a Tastycake for lunch every day, which I find so astounding now. I had to pack my own lunch, so that really has nothing to do with my parents and everything to do with my own teenage self.

No, not really. Growing up we ate traditional Chinese all the time. I never ate anything else until high school. But I do make Chinese about once a week.

I think my girls eat pretty similar to the way I did when I was younger as far as meals, since I tend to use a lot of my moms recipes. However, I think although I do let them have treats, they eat a little bit better in the snacking category. I remember eating a lot of treats when I was younger! I try and make good food choices for my kids but I'm in the kids are kids camp, and they are picky...so I make it work!
