@MamaMoose: Yah the only problem is that it's the first thing in the morning, so he's not really that rational. I'll try it out though and see if it helps!

@mrbee: I think your idea of giving him a choice is a good one. It sounds to me like it's more about Charlie wanting some control over what's going on his body more than that he really wants the dirty diaper back on.

@mrbee: this doesn't happen enough that I need to find a solution to it. It's completely random with him. Offering a choice of diapers might work. I did offer him a choice of diaper or underwear once and he chose underwear. I switched back to his diaper later on. We're still desperately trying to potty train but that's a whole other issue with him.

@bluestriped bee: Usually the diaper I'm changing him out of is cold too though?

@BoogieBea: Someone mentioned that it helps to give a choice of diapers for him to choose from... maybe I'll try that. Problem is that first thing in the morning, he is totally out of it.

I usually have to change him right away though, because there's no way he can take a morning bottle without changing diapers... it will overflow for sure!

Yes! I have no idea why he wants to put the dirty diaper back on. I try to do a switcharoo behind my back and tell him that it's the dirty diaper, but he usually knows. So I have to force the new one on kicking and screaming or I let him run around bare until he calms down.

Charlie is almost 2.5 years old (wow!) and lately, he's been getting upset in the mornings when I change him. Well not every time but sometimes when I change him, he will demand that I put the "yucky diaper" back on. I assume he means that he doesn't want a fresh diaper, but instead he wants me to put back on the used diaper that I just took off (by used I just mean that he peed in it at some point)..

Usually I go through the charade of "changing" him back into the exact same fresh diaper... but sometimes he can tell (not sure how, maybe the "yucky diaper" is still warm or maybe he can just feel the texture change). It's really quite traumatic, but eventually he calms down and all is well again. Sometimes this can take 20 minutes though, so I'm hoping someone has an insight here into what might cause this and how to address it.

Does your LO ever ask you to put an old "yucky" diaper back on? How do you deal with that
