@tinyperson: Every six months. Usually the tech is great but this one, it was like she had never had to x-ray à screaming baby before, which I find hard to believe since ALL the patients are kids, lol. She just kept saying À was angry, after telling her a few times that no, she was just scared, I had to actually tell her to just get it over with asap because it needed to be done and they have a seatbelt for that purpose, why she didn't suggest it is beyond me. I was actually thinking to complain.

@travelgirl1: we should get the results by the end of the week, but I don't think she has it. We just have to rule it out. The lab is pretty good at Sick Kids. Sorry the tech wasn't great! How often does A have x-rays now?

Thanks so much, everyone. I might try the getting them to examine me first, although that won't be possible with her x-rays. Hopefully she'll grow out of it, although I feel like the older she gets the more she understands that wherever there's an examination table, something painful will happen.

@tinyperson: Poor S! Did you get the celiac test back yet? Is she okay? A has her x-rays at Sick Kids - the tech was horrendous dealing with her but the surgeon was absolutely fabulous, examined her in literally seconds. They're so good there!

My LO became scared of the doctor's office after she was treated in the ER for croup. So for her 2 year checkup we took her favorite lovey (her stuffed bunny) and had the doctor/nurses do everything to bunny first - they weighed bunny, then weighed LO, they examined bunny's ears, then LO's ears, etc. It went about a million times better than I expected. It also helped that at 2 she gets the flu shot via nasal spray and not a shot

Only for the shots or if they try to take her out of the room without me (to be weighed). Other than those two things I'm pretty sure she loves Doctor visits. She hams it up for the doctor and nurses.

This last time, 9 months, she freaked out. I think it was a week before she was there for a cold. She freaked out when the nurse checked her ear for an ear infection. She freaked out as soon as I sat her on the table to undress her. When all the other appointments she loves just playing with the paper.

Yes, he was awful at both his 15 month and 18 month appts. His 18 month one was yesterday - luckily the nurse we had was very understanding and let us try to weigh and measure him on the adult scales. He was listening quietly to me and his doctor talk but as soon as she went to wash her hands to examine him, he knew something was up and screamed and thrashed around for a good 10 minutes. She said it was normal behavior at this age and should get better for his 2 year check up. I tried bringing some of his favorite books with us as a distraction but he wasn't interested. I just ordered a pretend doctor kit on Amazon today as a last minute xmas gift to see if it will help him get used to everything!!!

Just had my 15 month old's check up today, she was awful at her 12 mo visit, so this time I sang the Wheels on the Bus literally the ENTIRE time we were in the exam room. It actually really helped keep her calm, she only freaked when I stopped singing to talk to the Dr.

Can you have the doctor "examine" you first? Like, "oh, I looked at mommy's ears! That didn't hurt. Your turn!" and do everything really briefly on you first? I found that helps us a lot when I have to do something like using the nose frida.

She used to, but since she's been watching Doc McStuffins, she isn't as scared. I had to go get a check up (pink eye from my students) and she was trying to hard to get the nurse to give HER a check up.LOL!

We had her 12 month shots on the 9th, her flu booster on Saturday, an endo appt on Monday, and then we whisked her down to Sick Kids for a celiac blood test that afternoon. Yeah, she doesn't like doctors at this point, and freaked out as soon as we got her undressed and went near the table. We tried stickers, soother, tiny books that she loves, finger puppets, but nothing worked. She's fine immediately after the doctor leaves, but nothing's working! It's not fun hearing them scream...

My 13-month-old used to be a superstar at the doctors but the last few times she's been absolutely terrified! À nurse told me yesterday that it's normal, especially for babies who have had a lot done in hospital, like my daughter has, but all of a sudden she's started hysterically crying as soon as she sees the examination table, goes up a notch when the doctor walks in the room and throws up when they try do something to her. We always have to hold her down, bless her.

Any tips for helping her? I took stickers and toys and she didn't care.
