Neither of us have family here so we've been doing small parties at home with friends for the first 4 years. Plus my mom has been coming to visit for DS's birthday but I'm not sure she always will. I don't go all out like Pinterest but usually ending splurging more than I intended on some things (like cake or decorations).

Nope :bummed: we had to skip inviting DS's friends this year. He had two small parties in day care and at home, but I still feel awful about it because he hasn't seen these kids for a while and that would have been their one chance in months to meet. DD didn't get a big party either, but she's too young...

@Mrs. Sunshine: No not every year. her first two birthdays we didnt have a party just cake and pictures. we had big party for her 3rd birthday and then just a daycare party for her 4th. I expect her 5th will also be quiet with maybe cupcakes sent in to the daycare.

Probably. At least something small at home and depending on what she wants.

We will always celebrate as a family with cake and singing happy birthday but I don't think we will do a big party every year. I say that but we have done one of some kid three years in a row, ha! My goal is to dial it way down for her 4th birthday.

So far, kind of..? We had a legit party for her 1st birthday. 2nd birthday was just at home but we had balloons/cakes/presents so does that count? She was going to have a joint party at Gymboree w/ her cousin but her cousin was sick so party go cancelled.

We had a huge bash for the first and will do that for our second child's first. After that so far we just have grandparents, a few aunts and uncles and his 3 cousins over for a casual party.

We haven't done a big party for my 3.5 year old yet- we don't live close to much family and our condo was too small to have a party in. We didn't want to do a whole big thing at a restaurant or party place.

Now we have a house and my younger daughters first bday is next week but we can't have a party for her before her big sister has a proper party!!

We do always do cake with family at home and something special that day- this year we brought her to an indoor bouncehouse thing and she loved it.

@mrbee: not quite the same but my birthday is two days after dhs. So I always make him his cake, buttwo days later we still have plenty of leftovers so I never get my own cake. 😩

We always celebrate and do dinner and cake with family. I'm kind of ambivalent about big parties, but I'll do one if he wants it. We did a birthday trip one year, which was fun.

I'm a fan of what I had as a kid: a small family gathering with a cake, singing Happy Birthday, and then blowing out the candles. Except I was a twin and had to share every cake, so it wasn't as exciting as having a birthday of your own!

We had big pinteresty parties for DD1's first and second birthdays but just had family over for cake for her third....we will likely always have family and cake but not always a party.
