@betsyboop: We actually accumulated them by forgetting it at home and purchasing one while out and about. Luckily we chose one that's easily found at baby boutiques. The only trick is that you have to keep them all in rotation to keep them evenly worn. We once got a new one that he rejected because it felt so different from the others...!! I just threw it into the wash with the next 3 or 4 loads I did and voila.... 4th blankie. :)

@mrs. wagon: Smart mama! That's exactly what the sleep consultant suggested...having at least 2 blankies that are identical so you can wash them and have them in different places.

We have a blankie stuffed toy thing (We call her Ellen the Elephant) that I try to offer her as a lovie. We actually bought two of them so we can keep them in rotation like the Wagons.

My son loves the A+A swaddle blankets. When he used to be swaddled, he got used to sucking on the edge of them to self-soothe. Now he's sort of switched to sucking on his sleep sack instead (because I didn't want to put the blankets in the crib with him at night) but I know he still uses them at day care. His teacher says that he goes to his "happy place" once he gets to snuggle with it in his crib. He's not attached to one particular one fortunately- I would like to keep it that way!

She has my old blanket that my grandma made me when I was born. She's more attached to her Patrick the pup though.
She goes through phases.. She was all about her llama, teddy bears, then her kitty, now her pup.

oh also, it definitely helps with sleep. Wagon Jr. is an amazing sleeper. He still has night crying awakenings, but he cries for about 10 seconds then looks around, finds his blankie, cuddles it and goes right back to sleep.

Yup! an Angel Dear blankie lion. We have four of them so we always have one on hand in case one gets spilled or vomited on. We're lucky in that it provides him TONS of comfort (and helped him when we first started leaving him at daycare and in the nursery at church... people called it the "magic blankie" because he would stop crying immediately as soon as they gave it to him) but he's not super crazy attached to it. We already bought LMW's blankies-- angel dear dalmatian. We bought the three pack-- "a pair and a spare".

Wow, I've never heard of a sleep consultant.

My LO isn't attached to anything but her thumb, and she's an awesome sleeper. She sleeps more than 12 hours at night, usually more like 13 1/2, and takes a decent nap during the day. She's 14 months old, and started sleeping 12 hours at night at 2 1/2 months old.

She sleeps pretty good traveling as long as it's a dark room and we do our usual routines.

DD and DS both have crocheted blankets my SIL made for them. DD's pretty attached to hers, but I think it's a good thing. We don't let her take it out of her bedroom unless she's very upset, so most of the time it's "out of sight, out of mind." I was it during the daytime when she's awake, so she never has to miss a nap or nighttime without her blankie. We also haven't lost it or left it somewhere yet (knock on wood, lol). :) DS is only 6 months, so I think he would be fine with ANY crocheted blanket, but I hope he forms an attachment to his like DD did to hers.

A sleep consultant I know strongly suggests parents introduce a blankie/lovey to their LO at around 3-4 months, and believes this will help them become better sleepers.

This sounds like a good idea when it comes to some situations like traveling with my LO, but I also witnessed my younger brother's attachment to his blankie when he was growing up and the drama it created when we had to wash it or if he left it somewhere, and I'm a bit hesitant to relive all of that with my LO!

Do your LO's have blankies, and do you find them helpful?
