@autumnlove: Oh, and one more thing, see if they can check her oxygen level. That was really important for my son. One time it dipped sooo low (91 and 98+ is good) and I didn't even realized his chest was so far in when he breathed. He had to do back-to-back treatment at his allergist office when he only went in to do a follow up. Turns out he had bronchitis...

My son had to use a combination of albuterol and another steroid, I am not at home, otherwise I would look it up for you. That magic combination came to be on out third try, if you will, so our experience is to work with the doc and touch base if you don't see improvement.

Best of luck.

@autumnlove: It sounds like a mask and spacer just like what @T-Mom: uses for her DS. We also have that for travelling since lugging around a nebulizer isn't the most convenient. Nebulizer machines cost around $40 and our insurance didn't cover it (BCBS) so I just sucked up the cost (spent a little more at $50 for a cuter one) since it was a necessity. I was shocked our insurance didn't cover the cost of the neb machine... but oh well! Hope she feels better soon though!

@erwoo: ok, ours is just an albuterol inhaler with a mask. 2 puffs...we probably need something stronger!

My DS uses a mask and spacer.. And he uses xopenex..
It's not exactly albuterol, but it's in the same class.. Talk to your ped if its not effective? With the spacer they only have to take 10 breaths, it's a lot faster. But my DS is also 2.

@Alivoo01: Same one! I had no idea they had different characters for kids until I started looking to buy a firetruck nebulizer. Sorry your LO has to use it... My oldest might have allergy induced asthma b/c for a while, every time he gets sick, his oxygen levels go down which then requires treatment. He's been okay the last few months so we'll see. And we're in a different country with different trees/grass, etc. so hopefully it helps? We'll see in the Spring!

@autumnlove: Oh no! Maybe your LO needs a different strength of albuterol?

Every time DS gets sick, we use it and it really helps break up/loosen the congestion.

@autumnlove: Check with her ped. Maybe the dosage isn't correct? I'm not sure if it's the same for infants as it is for toddlers. And how it's administered either. My son uses a mask that stays on his face the entire 10 minutes. His allergist gave him a dragon mask which he loves and I bought him a firetruck nebulizer to help with the boredom of sitting there for 10 minutes multiple times a day back then.

Like the first time we used it in the docs office, DS fell asleep towards the end of the treatment because he could finally relax, I cried so hard!

It did for my oldest. Do you hear a more productive cough afterwards or do you still hear tightness in his/her chest? How long do you do it for? And how old is your LO? Mine started using a nebulizer at 3.5 years old and needed to use it twice since. He's 4.5 now. Sorry your LO isn't feeling well and needs to use a nebulizer. One time we had to combine with steroids every 4 hours b/c it was that bad.
