My son does. Every night I put Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (the one in the big tub) on him and it keeps it at bay pretty well. Occaisionally he'll have a flare up and we will spot treat a really bad flare up with hydrocortizone cream but we always go back to Cetaphil once it starts getting better.

@Rubies: @mrbee: Yes it's possible to develop allergies later in life, or even just during pregnancy. After using Neosporin my whole life, I developed an allergy to an ingredient in it last year -- neomycin. I almost couldn't believe it when they told me!

Yes, and I've always had it. I've used every cream ever invented too. I use eucerin for her face, the cream in a harbor lotion. I won't use anything with sodium lauryl sulfate in it, it's a huge trigger.

I don't have kids yet and I'm not pregnant, but I do have a lot of experience with eczema. I had it on the backs of my knees when I was little; it went away and then came back in a very severe way about a year ago - on my face!

Anyway, it is possible to develop allergies later in life to things that never bothered you before, including lanolin. My dermatologist had me switch from Aquaphor from Vaseline as a precaution before I got patch testing done. It turns out I'm not allergic to lanolin, so I went back to Aquaphor (it seemed to work better than Vaseline). But I did discover allergies to coconut oil, cinnamon oil and some other things. It's all very mysterious.

I know this thread is about eczema in babies, but if anyone has questions about adult eczema/atopic dermatitis, I think I have tried every product on the market and am happy to answer questions about my experience.

@chopsuey119: yes, i am guessing it might be something to do with changes to your body after pregnancy? you can put hydrocortisone cream on for the itch and then a mild lotion like cetaphil on top.

@Rubies: I read some people saying that they had developed an allergy after using Aquaphor a lot. So they had to switch to Vaseline.

I have no idea how these sorts of allergies work in real life... just passing along some secondhand info I picked up online! I mean, I found it on the Internet so it has to be true... right?

@chopsuey119: That is what our doctor always calls my daughter's eczema, contact dermatitis. I think it is because it gets worse when in contact with something. Like my daughter's eczema gets a lot worse when she scratches but of course she doesn't know not to scratch.

He does. We tried to keep him well lotioned with unscented Aveeno baby lotion. When certain spots get extra bad, our doctor advised us to use some OTC hydrocortizone cream, so we have some made by Aveeno. Just doing that his eczema is substantially better. We also make sure to not use too much soap in his bath.

@autumnlove: A word of caution: Aquaphor has lanolin and you can become allergic to lanolin!

I saw a number of reports of that while researching Charlie's eczema...

Uh oh! LO doesn't have eczema. Thank God! We don't have skin issues in our family.. but! I started getting a rash on my belly after I gave birth. Dermatologist says it's contact dermatitis! I have no idea what my belly's been coming in contact with though?

I think Baby Y has been dealing with it on his chest. Took me a while to realize it wasn't just run-of-the-mill sensitive skin. We stopped using bubble bath and I've started using a lot more lotion, and it does seem to be getting better. I had it when I was a kid.

Yup, just found out at LO's 4-month appointment. She was getting super dry patches of skin that was feeling really scaley. We've been SUPER diligent with the cream and moisturizing and just using a drop of soap and a few drops of baby oil in her baths. It's been helping a lot!

Yes, it has gotten really bad so we just went to the dermatologist for a prescription which seems to have helped a lot since all the OTC stuff wasn't helping.

I think Charlie has eczema! He started getting a rash on the back of his knees and his elbow creases, which is a pretty classic sign. Also, there's a family history of eczema too.

So we bought some eczema cream and the rashes have largely disappeared. I think as long as we are diligent about using cream and moisturizer, he should be ok. We also cut back on using soap in his daily bath. We just wash his hands and booty every day, and the rest of it we scrub down every few days. It seems to be helping!

We will confirm with the doctor soon, just to be sure. But in the meantime, the problem seems to have gone away almost completely.

Does your LO have eczema or other skin rashes/irritation? How have you been managing it?
