We only have cell phones, so he knows how to use our current ones and the deactivated old one that we keep charged and in the same place. </p> <p>One tip I heard on the radio was that the operator's first question is going to be "Where is your emergency?" (which makes sense--they might not be able to trace cell phones, and they want to be able to send help out even if the call gets disconnected). I taught him how to call on my cell and on DH's. We don't have a landline. He will sometimes ask to practice, but definitely understands that we don't call except for emergencies (fire, but only once you are out, and if mommy or daddy won't wake up, or if a grown up asks you to). Thankfully he knows how to do it! Actually writing this made me realize that I've taught him how to use our landline, but maybe I should teach him how to use a cell in case that isn't an option? </p>
