@lamariniere: I keep it pretty basic and mechanical, answer her questions, and just go by her interest. I had another baby last year, so she was obviously really curious. "Where is the baby growing?" Inside my uterus, which is here in my belly. "How did it get in there?" Daddy put part of the baby in, which mixed with part of me, and then it grew from very small to big like she is now. "How did daddy do that?" We had sex, which is when he put his penis inside of my vagina. "How does the baby come out?" Through my vagina. We watched some birth videos for that question.

It was not a huge deal. She asked another time or two what exactly 'sex' was, and I told her that it was a fun thing that adults do. Also not a huge deal. She's 4 years old.

My 2.5 year old is fascinated by medical things so I have told her that her and her sister grew in a special part of mummy's belly called the uterus, and that the doctor did an operation and cut mummy open to take her out and that her sister came out of mummy's vagina. She is mad that she didn't get to come out of the "'gina" . She is obsessed with the book "Curious George Goes to the Hospital" so whenever George goes in for surgery she is thrilled because it's just like how she was born.

@sarac: how did you explain it to your LO? Did you use a book (if so, which one)? Or just tell them in basic terms?

My son knows the doctor took the baby out, but we haven't gotten into any other specifics.

My son recently said that he thinks he was born when I burped. He knows he grew inside my belly because we have a series of belly shots in a panoramic photo in the playroom.

E knows that G was in my belly and I went to the doctor and they cut her out and I had a big owie, and he assumes the same happened with him. He hasn't asked any other questions.

Yeah, my four year old knows the mechanical basics about how it all happened. I don't believe in keeping the facts about how their bodies work from them.

I'm pregnant so my 2.5 yo DD naturally got curious. I just told her that the baby will grow in mommy's tummies and they would take the baby out at the hospital in a few months. She asked if that's what happened to her also, and now she loves to tell "my baby story" about how she was a bean in my tummy and then she was born at our local hospital and how everyone came to see her. She didn't seem to be very interested in how babies get into the tummy though.

Yeah DS knows he and his baby sister lived in my tummy at first... but for a while he also thought he and DH had babies in their tummies too

She knows she grew in my belly and then came out when the doctor "gave mama a little cut that didn't hurt". Luckily she hasn't asked how she got INTO my belly in the first place! :silly:

Her idea: She grew in my tummy and then I went to the hospital and bought her.
Same idea about her little sister. She constantly says we picked out a funny baby at the hospital.

If you ask your LO 'where did you come from?' What would they say?

I asked my 3.5 year old this yesterday and she said she didn't know. So I explained to her that she came from my tummy, and I left it at that...for now!
