Right around 2, he had several books memorized and would sit and read them to himself. I was pretty astounded because within 3 weeks of owning it he knew the whole thing and he wasn't quite 2.5! My son is now 4.5 and still looooves to "read". He doesn't know how to read and I don't think he has any site words, but he can sit literally for an hour and meticulously study books page by page. At almost 21 months my DD isn't quite as concentrated and focused as my DS, but she will also sit quietly for 20ish minutes and look at books. My favorite stage was when he would memorize books word for word and "read" along with us. It's so funny because we will start reading a book to her and suddenly she starts saying all the words, when we didn't realize she knew that book. It's so adorable. She's been flipping through books and looking at pictures for a while but only started the reciting recently. </p> <p>@Corduroy: C had also started asking us questions. Not just about books, but I'll be like, oh what color are your shoes? She'll say, Purple. What color are mommy's shoes? He would be all quiet and I would think he's opened some drawers or something but nope- he would be sitting quietly studying his books.
