Sort of! A lot of words are just mispronunciations, but she calls her sheep lovey Beeshee. That's his name, I guess, and Inhave no idea where it came from.
Frozen strawberries are 'peaches' even though she knows and will say the difference between. Strawberry and a peach.
A bus is a honk, a bunny is a hop and a knife is a sharp.
Crazy kid.

DS says "ga" for in and on. I think he just doesn't know how to make the right sound for it though, because he used to use "ga" for "out" too, but now he says "ouck"

DD called her paci a "fuffy" and that's what it is still called to this day. I never thought of it as made up words though, more them trying to mimic the language but their tongue not cooperating.

Oh, and apparently I said something that sounded like "joe Louis" when I was really little, and I meant "it's yours." My parents were super confused.

Not very much...but when there is something I find it really frustrating trying to figure out what she is on about! For instance she keeps saying "nana" whenever we talk about going outside anywhere. I've asked her to point to "nana" and she just points to the window. Sometimes she points to my laptop and says "nana" too! Weird!

What I find more funny is that when she's talking to herself...you know like mumbling whilst she's playing/walking etc. she's saying things like "pushchair, pushchair, tickle, car, car, quack, quack..." completely at random!

DS uses a quite a few made up words. I think its funny when he goes off on a ramble and then the person asks me to translate. Initially I wasn't sure if they actually counted as words for his word count but he's consistent with them so I'm counting them!

She calls her pacifier her "mama". I think it's cute but it's also a little strange. lol She can say paci but she called it a mama first. None of the adults in her life call it that, just her.

She called water "awa" for a while. She used to say "Nana" but now she's suddenly decided to call MIL "Nini" instead.

@Foodnerd81: oh yes! was "talking" between 1 and 2 years but no one could understand him but us. "gung-gung" was hockey, "awoahwoah" was goalie, "gunh" was his lovey, "deh-deh" was Starbucks, "mmnnff" was muffin, haha
He was very vocal, just no English words.
Finally last summer at 2.5 he started to take the time to put the sounds in order and started REALLY talking. He hasn't stopped since! ;)

@yoursilverlining: in our house, beeesh is book, which sort of makes sense. She has a couple other sounds that she says that clearly mean something to her, but I cannot figure out what she means!

LO has 1 totally made-up word: beesch (pronounced like bee-shhh) like means her pacifier. It was actually one of her first words and it took us an embarrassingly long time to figure out what she meant, because she would say beesch all the time. At 2.5, she still never calls her paci a pacifier, only asks where beesch is!

My LO has 2-3 words that she uses consistently that are completely made up. She calls all cars, trucks, etc "Drrrr.....(rolling tongue sound)'. Every time. If you point to it in a book and ask her what it is, she rolls her tongue.

And she thinks sheep are 'Baaaaaa's...but with a deep growling sound. It's so funny because I used to always say "Baaa baaa, sheep" and I guess she internalized the Baa part, but I have no clue why she has to growl it.

Also, she has a weird phrase, that kind of sounds like "ooor there", but it doesn't mean "over there", I think it means "What's that".

Does your LO make up words for things, that she uses consistantly? Not like a similar sound (dodo for dog) but just a totally different sound that she always means the same thing with.

C is 18 months and is "talking" a lot, but a lot of it is another language! For example, me-me means raisins, ah-dah means TV, dat means cheese... Dh laughs when I say what she means but it's really specific.

I thought all kids did this but I mentioned t at a play date recently and no one else was doing it. Anyone else? I think it's really cute!
