Yes. Mine's been opinionated since about 18 months! I try to let her wear something she wants within reason. She almost always wants a twirly dress and specific shoes. She doesn't care about PJs though.

She doesn't really care what I put her in, within about ten minutes of getting dressed, she has usually put one of her princess dresses on over her outfit. Who am I kidding though, when I go in to get her in the morning, she usually has a princess dress on over her pajamas! Or, if she doesn't have any of her princess dresses to hand, she'll take one of her fancy sparkly dresses from her closet and put that on over her pyjamas or outfit. This child loves dressing up! She's 2.5.

She just turned 2. We let her pick out her pjs'. Clothes nope. We will give her a choice between shoes if two will go. Or if I have two shirts out, then let her pick. But I like having control while I can.

So far I mostly give her options- do you want this shirt or that? But sometimes she pulls something out and insists, already- she is 19 months! The other day I tried to put sweatpants on her for nap but she insisted on putting her getting too small jeans back in instead. I think she will be very opinionated as she gets older.

@Bao: I've only let her a few times and she gravitates towards PJs too! The other day it was mismatching pajama top and bottoms with a flowery tank dress over. It was awesome.

LO doesn’t care at all about her first layer of clothes, however, she insists on wearing a dress-up/princess dress every.single.day and is very opinionated on which one she wants to wear on a particular day!

@Torchwood: my DD just got a bunch of summer dresses for her bday and she insisted on wearing them - so I threw a long sleeve t-shirt on under it and we were both happy

I'll let my LO when she's old enough! I'll just try to keep non-seasonally appropriate items out of sight. For some reason I was really not okay with that as a nanny, and it led to some fights with the toddler I was caring for until I realized that it totally didn't matter if her outfit matched! I think I was worried it made me look like I wasn't doing my job if she didn't look nice. Looking forward to seeing what fun weirdness LO picks out someday!

yes but not until 3.5 or so - so now we spend Sunday nights picking out 5 outfits so there is no arguing on a school morning!

I have tried to show DS what colors match but he doesn't care so neither do I

I let DD wear whatever - except PJs

My 2.5 year old only wants to pick her outfits once in a while, and she usually chooses pajamas of some sort haha! I don't mind what she wears most of the time, so if it means avoiding a battle I just let her choose.

Does your LO like to pick their own outfits? Do you mind or try and persuade them in another direction about what to wear?
