DD is almost 3 also and she loves to play in her room. Most of her stuff is in there (except art supplies, which live next to the kitchen so she can hang with me while I make dinner). Sometimes she will play alone, but mostly she wants me to go in there too (or she will bring stuff into my room/ the living room so we can be in the same space while I do chores).

M started within the past few months (she's three in November). She's actually really good at entertaining herself in there -- she'll go in and shut the door and refuse to let us leave it open a crack, which is kind of hilarious because she is so much my introvert daughter sometimes.

That being said she has SO MANY toys in there and it's always a disaster when she emerges. I can't wait to get her in her big girl room and spread things out a bit.

Occasionally but it is definitely not the norm. In fact, he doesn't love playing by himself at all so just usually follows us around the house trying to get us to play, ha ha! And he plays in his playroom.

If so, when did they start?

I only keep a few toys in the girls rooms. They go in their sometimes but DD2 is little enough that I start to get nervous when she's gone, despite her room being child proofed. DD1 is getting at the age where it's totally appropriate but she's pretty attached to me, plus wherever she goes, baby sister follows so I don't mind having them in the common living room/kitchen area for the most part.
