He had to learn to play independently starting at 6 months because I SAH, but had horrible morning sickness. Then it was reinforced as I entered the third trimester. There's only so much I can do with him (commence huge amounts of guilt) and so he's learned to play with cars, cans of beans, yogurt lids etc., on his own for periods of time. I do think it's a good thing in the end.

I wish my daughter would play independently! She definitely prefers to play with others, and would love to do *everything* with mama & daddy. If she would just play on her own for 30 mins to an hour at a time, that would really help me to get some things done around the house.

Our eldest kid does well at drawing by himself, but he loves to play with us too. He'll often ask us to draw with him!

Our youngest is very self-directed, and can play by herself for hours. We have to make an effort to play together with her, so that she gets to practice listening and speaking... otherwise she could play all day long just by herself.
