Then it was reinforced as I entered the third trimester. There's only so much I can do with him (commence huge amounts of guilt) and so he's learned to play with cars, cans of beans, yogurt lids etc., on his own for periods of time. She definitely prefers to play with others, and would love to do *everything* with mama & daddy. He'll often ask us to draw with him! Our youngest is very self-directed, and can play by herself for hours. We have to make an effort to play together with her, so that she gets to practice listening and speaking... otherwise she could play all day long just by herself. Does your LO play independently? Or do they prefer to play with you?
