Yes but we turn it back on him, like oh you must be hungry you should eat your dinner, or maybe you're getting sick so you should go to bed now. We still get false I'm sicks but he amends them to be more truthful so I know better what is going on.

Yep, he did it tonight when I asked him to pick up a game. "But my belly hurts". And of course I have a puke phobia so he knows that really gets me all worked up. Love how he has me figured out at 3 1/2 yrs old!

Not to get out of things, but since having a bad cold recently he has started to announce that he 'needs honey' (I give him it for his throat), and claiming he has a bad cough!

I am super paranoid about this because my mom never believed we were sick and we used to have to go to school sick and we didn't get proper medical treatment for a variety of illnesses. Some noteworthy ones included an ear infection that caused deafness in one ear for months, a broken arm, a major cut that required 11 stitches. If I was faking sick to avoid something, I would have to fake a major illness, which is obviously not ideal either. I appreciate that it's an extreme case, but it has made me take every claim of sickness seriously.

Instead of running her to the doctor all the time, I talk to her about it - "does your tummy hurt because you're sick, or does it hurt because you're sad you have to go to daycare today?" Or "would some extra love make your tummy feel better?" That type of thing. She's only 2.5 but she is able to articulate whether it's a feeling or an illness quite well.

LO had the stomach virus a few weeks ago, and he started to notice that we would let him skip a snack or meal if he said his stomach hurt. He would complain about his stomach hurting to get out of eating something he didn't like only to ask for a snack 10 minutes later.

Constantly. As an excuse for being naughty, in an attempt to get medicine, when she doesn't want to get dressed, clean up, eat dinner, and the list goes on. The other day she puked at school and when I got her on the way home she told me "I wanted you to pick me up early" 😳

He will say his legs hurt to get out of cleaning up his toys. It just makes me laugh.

The one time I thought he was being dramatic about being sick he ended up having an ear infection so I'll probably be more apt to believe him, for a while at least.

Hahaha. Yes. My daughter complains that her stomach hurts, or her head hurts, or her back hurts - my favourite recent ailment of hers is that "her baby is kicking" - I guess I'm complaining a bit too much at the end of this pregnancy :)

She usually uses the excuse when she's been asked to clean up her mess or eat her lunch, so I don't take it too seriously. When she complains about something out of the blue (and she's not required to do something), I take it more seriously.

Oh yes, all the time... as an excuse for her bad behavior. :-/ "I don't feel good, that's why I'm not listening" LOL

I think, at this age, they're starting to see what things get them more attention. Hopefully that's all it is for you and that she's really not getting sick.

The past two days, our daughter has told us she is sick. Her dad and I have been sick but she has been fine. We ask what hurts/what's wrong and she just says she is sick. Now she is at school and telling her teacher her belly hurts. I'm skeptical because she hasn't wanted to go to school because her bff isn't there (and hasn't been for 2 weeks).

Daycare just called to let us know that she is complaining that her stomach hurts. They are going to monitor her and if she pukes, we will go get her. I don't want to go get her for a complain, though because I don't want her thinking "being sick" means you get to stay home.

Does your kid ever say they are sick to try to get out of something? When do you take them seriously?
