@T-Mom: My 13-month-old is giving me a hard time too. I never know if he's full or if he's just tired of being in the high chair. So hard!

My son will sit through 80% of the meal if he's hungry and maybe 30% of he's not really hungry. He used to sit through 10% before. Literally we'd put him in the high chair and 10 minutes later he'd want out. It's nice that he actually sits and eats for almost an entire meal now!

She usually gets fussy and starts kicking when she's about 75% done. It's usually a mad rush at that point to try to get the rest of the food in her!

At first my LO hated sitting down for meals, and the only thing that would work was Sesame Street. I'm glad that phase is over now, but he throws at least one tantrum at every meal. Oye.

when LO was a baby, we would take turns holding her during mealtimes if she was fussing out of her baby seat. as she got older, and could understand more, we started early teaching her about sitting through meals until we were done, basically telling her that we all sit together and eat until everyone is done. even if she is done or doesn't want to eat much, we tell her that that's fine, she doesn't have to eat, but she has to sit with us until we're done. of course she has her moments when she acts up, squirms, throws stuff on the floor, but we just try to reinforce the message by not taking her out of the chair, which now at 2 years old, she can sit in her chair throughout an entire meal majority of the time.

when we go out with the parents, we've had to tell them not to give in and take the LO out of the chair until most of us are done eating, as LO sure knows who will give in to her since grandma and grandpa always wants to pick her up if LO wants out.

She's awesome during meal time. We always get compliments when we're out to eat about how well behaved she is. My LO just loves food and she's so focused on it that she doesn't pay any attention to anything else but eating, so she just sits there and eats!

@mrbee: I would love to know why as well! my 4 yr old still has this problem too even though we correct her every time and sometimes even give time-out. I try to tell her that someday she will be dying to just sit down and have a nice meal without any distractions or having to get up every minute but she just looks at me like i'm crazy, haha...

she usually lasts about 75% of the way through our meals. We're working on keeping her 'sitting up at the table' during an entire meal.

He used to be awesome but now at almost 13 months he's terrible. I tried sit him at a kiddie table and he wants to get up and walk around while grazing.

My son used to be better until he ditched the high chair all together at around two. My daughter will sit in it better at home but as soon as she sees her brother moving around, she wants out too. At restaurants, she can so easily wiggle out of the chair that it's impossible to keep her in there.

DD is getting pretty good, but she's over 2. DS is 6 months, so his meals don't last very long. Usually, we end up holding him on our laps about half the time, though, because he's not a big fan of the highchair, eyt!

Olive starts out good, but she gets fussy and doesn't like sitting in her high chair too long even though she wants to eat more. I have to entertain and distract her.

How good is your LO in a high chair during mealtime?
