Mine still sleep on their backs, but mostly because they are still working on rolling back-to-belly. Not sure what will happen at that point...they don't hate tummy time like they used to, but I still can't imagine them *liking* that position!
I can't sleep on my stomach to save my life, so maybe they will be side sleepers like me :-)

As soon as we stopped swaddling DD when she learned to roll over she has been a belly sleeper. She always rolls over to fall asleep and only occasionally rolls back on her back in the middle of the night briefly. I think she likes the comfort of her own lady weight on herself.

LO has fallen asleep during tummy time and slept like a champ that way. She can roll to her side and sleeps better in her crib on her side. I still put her in on her back though.
I think she is trying to roll to her tummy though. She keeps waking up all the way to one side and smooshed in the side of the crib and then is SO MAD.

Yep he flops instantly... it's also a good indicator if there's hope of him falling back asleep. If he's on his back chatting... game over!

Yep, they won't sleep on their back anymore....unless they are lying in our bed with their head up on the pillow ;)

I put Lo down on her back and if she manages to flip onto her belly then she sleeps better - if she sleeps on her belly then she usually sleeps through the night.

@MamaMoose: Haha ditto! But that is always the first thing LO does when I put her down, flop completely over onto her belly/face.

Yup! LO definitely sleeps longer stretches when she gets over on her belly. But I'm still not willing to put her down that way. If she wants to sleep that was she's gotta get there herself : )

Definitely. Which is why we started belly naps *way* early.

Yup. As soon as I put her in her crib, she flips to her side and then to her belly. Her butt goes in the air. It's adorable. Sometimes she sleeps flat on her back but more often than not, she falls asleep on her belly and then rolls over.

No but like @futuremrsmck my lo went from hating her belly to loving it in a day when she got rolling back to belly down. At that same time she started loving sleeping on her side although her back with her arms above her head is still the default sleeping position that she starts out in. :P

Definitely. He never went through the "on my belly and can't flip back" phase because he went from hating being on his belly to loving it in basically a single day. He figured out how to roll from his back to his stomach before stomach to back and has preferred it ever since. I put him down on his back but I often wonder why I bother since before I've even turned his sound machine on he's on his tummy, and usually stays that way (or on his side) for his whole sleep.

At first, LO hated being on his belly. He would flip in the middle of the night and wake up screaming b/c he couldn't get back. Then he started getting used to it and sleeps on his belly all the time. He loves it, and I'm not going to keep flipping him...especially if he's comfortable! He just turned 7 months last week!

We had a rough couple of days, but now LO is sleeping like champ once she gets comfortable on her belly. I even tried to snuggle with her for a bit at nap time and she wsn't having it. She wanted in her crib and flipped right over. She has been asleep for almost 2 hours now-the longest she has ever napped during the day in her crib and she has moved in several different positions without waking.

Did you LO sleep better when they started sleeping on their belly?
